First and foremost, we want to encourage these amazing students and their efforts on the field. Much love and support from DOA…. Tuning the tenors may help the overall sound a bit. Higher tuning would help with sound projection, clarity of notes & articulation, as well as not clashing with wind notes during the show. Just a suggestion. Take it with a grain of salt. Keep it up, kids. Drumline 4 Life! 🔥
@captaincool356020 күн бұрын
Firstly, I'd like to thank you for your comment and for being supportive of our wonderful drum line! The tuning can be blamed on the weather. We tried to tune, but with it being 35ish degrees, they were bound to be out of tune due to the cold. I am a little confused as to your comment about the "wind notes," if you wouldn't mind expounding upon that a little?
@DrumlinesOfAmerica20 күн бұрын
@ absolutely…. Tuning the drums to notes that fit within the key of your show/closer helps to avoid any clashes with what the winds are playing. For example, if the winds are holding an E major chord, you’d want to avoid tuning in the drum section that would create dissonance within that major chord. Let’s say one of the drums is tuned to an E-flat, that would be an automatic clash (E natural & E-flat)…. Hope this makes sense/helps a bit. All the best to you and your drumline!
@captaincool356020 күн бұрын
@DrumlinesOfAmerica yes certainly, thank you. But, I do not see exactly how a comment about the wind section can be drawn up from a video that strictly shows the drum line?
@DrumlinesOfAmerica20 күн бұрын
@ just listing the benefits of tuning, nothing really to do with what’s happening in the video.

drum key in the stands would be helpful, but still a good sextuplet run (though putting it up to tempo would be cool) and make the snares stand 😢
@captaincool356020 күн бұрын
Yeah, a drum mey would help. However, our director and members of the drumline don't seem to think so. As to the snares, I couldn't agree more, but alas, they don't listen to anyone and won't stand. To boot, our dire tor doesn't really care about it enough to tell them to stand.

Wheres the discipline.... you dont trill your instrument out of turn.. you dont play your instrument unless directed to..
@captaincool356020 күн бұрын
While I couldn't agree more, that's something to be taken up with our director... a director who doesn't really care all that much about such things, unfortunately.
@mynt415320 күн бұрын
@captaincool3560 umm i tend to disagree in highschool my band was pretty much self governed and self desciplined.... why? Becuase, we wanted to show our band director how much WE cared... if you continue to make excuses for yourself, youll continue to wallow in mediocrity
@captaincool356020 күн бұрын
@mynt4153 I would like to say that as one of the few members of the band who actually cares and shows any form of love for this band, the kids don't really care, and they are this way primarily becuase our director doesn't care, or so I infer. You know, I'm glad you had such a good band experience, but unfortunately not all bands are like that

I will address your three comments in one reply. Firstly, the tuning. At the point of the recording, we (the band) have been in the stands for four hours in 35⁰ weather, so naturally, they are going to be out of tune. To boot, we get 3rd quarter off, and this is one of the first things they played in the 4th, so not only had they been in the cold for several hours, they also hadn't been played in close to half an hour. As for the snares, I couldn't agree more. They really should stand, but they ignore us when we tell them to, and our director won't do anything about it, so there's not much to be done there. Lastly, for the quads, but I'll generalize for the whole drum line. These are just some high school kids playing Pep tunes in the stands at a Friday night football game in the freezing cold, and they're having a great time so, please, do try and lay off them a little.

Heres a little tip (not criticizing by the way, y'all sounded good). Y'all have to try and listen to each other, fit into each other's shoes, and try and play like one. And also for the snare drummers, y'all have to play "the taps" low, so that people can hear the accents more. Other than that loved everything about this 🤙
