Do i Apply for the NHS bursary first and then student finance? When i apply for student finance wales do i just put apply for maintenance loan? Or do i have to apply for the course fee too? Xx
@studentmediccarys9 ай бұрын
Hi, thank you for your question! I would say apply for both at the same time. A lot of people have found that you’ll get more money if you go for the full loan rather than the 50/50 split, but that’ll mean paying it back once qualified and working. You’ll need to apply for nhs bursary and nhs tuition fees bursary together via the nhs student award services, and then the maintenance loan is separate on student finance wales. Apparently though they are increasing the amount of nhs bursary from 2025 so it all depends. I went for the 50/50 split nhs bursary and student loan, and the nhs tuition fees bursary. It’s been a tight squeeze that’s for sure! All depends if you’ve got that extra money to tie you over or if you’ll need it during the course!

Does anyone know if you get drug tested for placement. Got cannabis in my system from Tenerife (where it’s legal) I start uni in 2 weeks
@studentmediccarys Жыл бұрын
You don’t in Wales, not sure about other places though. It won’t reflect well on you if you are found out. Being on a paramedic course and taking drugs is a big no and the uni/trust you will be with will kick you out if they ever become aware of drug use. Each to their own though I guess. You should be fine if it was a one off

Great videos ,can I ask for my daughter who would love to go into paramedic science,what did you take in six form or college as a course,thanks.

Hi! Thank you so much for your comment! So I left school at 16 and did childcare for two years, followed by health and social care. That gave me enough UCAS points, but I think just the health and social care course is enough points. Alternatively, if she’d like to stay for 6th form, I would recommend taking Biology and other relevant subjects. Additionally some experience in a healthcare setting will be beneficial. Hope this helps!:)

Where do you get sent do your placements ?
@studentmediccarys Жыл бұрын
We could be sent anywhere in Wales! We have a mixture of hospital and non-hospital placements, including NEPTS, on emergency ambulances, theatres, A&E and so much more! It’s absolutely fantastic as you get to work in rural, sub-urban and urban areas, and gain experience and exposure in a variety of different settings

@@studentmediccarys Do you have options of places that you can choose from for the placements or does the university choose the locations for you
@studentmediccarys Жыл бұрын
@@klaud6055 The university arranges it for you, but if you have extenuating circumstances (and proof of it) then they are quite lenient with placements and try to place you as close as possible to home/where you need to be

@@Aoifemae1 That’s amazing , congratulations!! So it’s the first year for the university to do this - from what I know it is not a true condition of getting on to the course. My understanding of it is that you can still fail and get a place, and that it is there merely there to show you the demands of the job and your current level of fitness (and if you should be aiming to improve it). It seems very intense for what it is (I can’t imagine going into a patients house and saying “Hold on whilst I do 25 push ups”!!) - I wouldn’t worry too much about it…I would probably be off the course otherwise!

hi As I am going to Swansea university next year for my exchange, I would like to ask if you would recommend singleton campus accommodation? any social activities held in the accommodations?
@studentmediccarys2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I definitely recommend Singleton campus accommodation, especially for your first year. It's in the perfect location and has everything you need to settle in to university life. No social activities are planned by the accommodation team, but there are plenty of socials, from flat parties, student union nights, and club/society socials - there is always something going on :)

Just gone through this for my Daughter. She got tuition loan (which must be paid back), full maintenance loan (which must be paid back), £5k from NSH bursary as a grant (no repayment needed as long as you stick with your studies). On top of that due to home finance situation she qualified for a £800 bursary from the uni itself. She is at Bournemouth in UK I believe in Wales and Scotland you get the tuition fees as an NHS grant (no repayment needed) on the condition you work for the local NSH Trust for 2 years post qualification.

Hiya ik this may sound a bit invasive but I was wondering what building you chose to live in as I’m trying to choose my accommodation and all the picks are a bit confusing? Hope you’re having a lovely time xxx
@studentmediccarys2 жыл бұрын
Hey!! Sorry but as my room number is in the video I'm not going to say which building, but it was on Singleton campus. I agree that it is confusing - but from what I remember there are a few options on Singleton Campus: 1) Bedroom with ensuite 2) Bedroom, shared bathroom with 1 other person 3) Bedroom, shared bathroom with 5/6 others 4) Bedroom, shared bathroom (with 1 other I think) and catered I personally went with the first one - it is a little more expensive but it's worth it. You do get to put 4-5 choices in the order you prefer, and most of the time you will be placed in your first choice. I know some that ended up on Bay Campus, but the sooner you submit your application the better! You can swap and chance your application if need be. So sorry I can't answer your question properly, but hope this helped! x
