It's nice to see you guys cover some of the episodes too. I've watched all of your WITW podcasts and the Cosgrove Hall version is the one I adore the most, so I particularly enjoyed those. I grew up with the Monty Python one too The voice actor for Toad (David Jason) said in interviews that he delibrately emphasized Toad's silly and childlike parts to his personality to make him more likeable. Jason thought Toad was a nasty character in the book and he decided to give Toad a childlike voice and mannerisms so the audience could understand why Mole, Ratty and Badger stay such loyal friends to the selfish creature. The 1995 adaption is more book accurate when it comes to the characters personalities, but like David Jason, I do find Toad a nasty piece of work in the book. I prefer Mole and Toad's tamer personalities in this version. As the Cosgrove Hall Series goes on, the new stories do focus a LOT more on comedy and Toad's crazes. I don't think Sarah will enjoy the episodes much because of this. He doesn't break the law again but the Weasels do trick him a lot, which Badger always puts right. Back in the 80s, kids were watching WITW purely to watch Toad and his silly adventures. So, it was obvious the series began to focus on him and the more comedic elements because that's what the target audience wanted. Don't know if you've noticed, but Ratty was voiced by Ian Carmichael in the film. Ian became the narrator in the TV Series and Peter Sallis (the voice of Wallace in 'Wallace and Gromit') took over as the voice of Ratty.

I did notice, but forgot to mention it. We actually recorded a second episode that night on the 2 Christmas(ish) episodes, and I think I remembered to mention it then. That episode we’re saving for December though.

"Why would you get in the car with this maniac"😂; I need to find this. I thought I had seen this, but I am wondering if I watched another "human" version
@everyversionever27 күн бұрын
I’ve discovered that there are at least two other live action “human” versions, one from PBS, and one that’s a stage musical. I won’t be able to get to those this time, but they are definitely on my list for the future. The DVDs are currently in my Amazon shopping cart. 😆

I have never seen this, and to be honest, I have no desire. This doesn't look like Wind in the Willows at all. Looks like a regular knock-off Disney animal movie

Channel 4 is almost BBC quality. It used to be the artier channel; more experimental, but now it’s just edgier. ITV is muck. 😅 Cheap, low quality, filler TV. No where near the quality of the other too.

This was my first Cinderella… and what you forget is this was an ‘event’… we actually went to the neighbours, as they had a colour tv…. And we didn’t… it was magic…. We didn’t think about ‘relationships’… and because it was colour… that’s why the sets are brighter… and of course the dress was ‘perfect’…. We didn’t have the option of watching this many time…. There was no vhf, or cd… you either watched it or not… it’s probably the most ‘sweet portrayal… and also, this was the 60s… and of it’s period… and you didn’t know there were 3 versions… the Julie Andrew’s version was a revelation… which i found during the pandemic…. Each version has its charm… and all of them are ‘of the time’..

This was a lovely video to find this morning as this is my childhood film I enjoyed hearing all your commentry and I'm biased, as I always thought this was the best version. There are 65 episodes all together. This film, S1, S2, S3, S4, A Tale of Two Toads and then Series 5. The voice actor for Toad (sir David Jason) is very popular here in the UK. He also voiced Danger Mouse, The BFG and Count Duckula for Cosgrove Hall and he's the star of the UK's most popular sitcom Sir David wanted to give Toad a likeable and childlike innocence in his portrayal as he found Toad to be quite unlikeable in the book. He has a point, Toad can be more nasty to his friends in the book. When Ratty tells Toad that Badger was attacked in the book, Toad finds it humourous. I'm pleased that it upset him and he was concerned for Badger in this adaption. I look forward to your reviews on the other WITW adaptions. Pleased to hear you own the DVD 😊 The Wild Wood scene gave me nightmares til I was about 9 lol. Thanks

So excited for this. I adore this version.😍 I own multiple versions of the books. I have the 1st 2 seasons of the Cosgrove dvds and never realized until recently that there are so many seasons I am missing 😢. I need to get the full collection.

Someday I would like to do an episode on the show too, at least an episode covering the extra material from the book that didn’t make it into the movie. I’ll probably need to buy myself a region free DVD player first though, because as far as I can tell, the only DVD set to include the entire series is a set from the UK, and it won’t play on an American DVD player. Not sure how expensive that will be, but I’ll probably have to do it if I want the full series. 😆

what a great concept for a channel. I love it. I see these getting me through work, when I don't have brain power to listen to an audiobook and work at the same time. I own this miniseries. I remember watching it on television when it first aired. It was on at least one school night, and I had to make sure everything was done so that I could stay up and watch both episodes. It scared me a bit, but that good kinder horror type of scared. I also grew up on Zoobilee Zoo. I think for this miniseries, you had to be in a certain age range when it came out to still love it to this day. I was 8, perfect age for these types of movies.

This really is the best overall. While Katherine Hepburn may be the quintessential Jo, Winona Ryder brings so much reality and emotion. And this movie as a whole is better than the Hepburn version, although I feel Hepburn captures a great reality of a true character. When Beth dies, Winona as Jo is just wrenching - so glad she got an Oscar nomination. Every actor in this one is great.

@everyversionever5 ай бұрын
The 1987 series is definitely one I would like to get to at some point, but I don’t have any immediate plans because it takes so much longer to do a tv series than a movie. I am definitely planning on doing The Jungle Book too, I want to do all the did Disney versions and spin-offs, as well as some non-Disney adaptations. That one is going to take awhile to plan for, so I won’t be able to do it this year, but I’m tentatively planning to get to that next year. If not the first thing I do, than at least hopefully in the first half of next year.

Ok, which version of Alice in Wonderland has a diorama with the rabbit and he comes to life?!?! Big memory block here.... any thoughts??
@everyversionever5 ай бұрын
Was it live-action or animated? The first one that comes to mind is the 1988 Czechoslovakian version, which was sort of a diorama, but it was a taxidermied rabbit in like a museum display case. It became a creepy, stop-motion animated rabbit when it came to life. If that’s not it I could ask my friend Phantomwise, she’s seen even more versions than I’ve covered, so she might know which one you’re thinking of.

I prefer the mostly versions of Alice is with the hair straight with and without the headbands on the heads is only going and given to her name Alice on her own in the Adaptation Stories of the mostly versions of "Alice in Wonderland" which is based on the original story and the book of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll at the first place.

I'll tell you what kills me about this film. Fiona Fullerton is in my opinion our best portrayal of Alice we've ever had. So somewhere here with all these elements could've been the definitive best, faithful quality Alice adaptation. But I think like many directors, they got flummoxed by the lack of true forward moving plot in this story and so tried to buoy it with these dumb songs. And they didn't try to make each of these new characters she comes across really pop, be exciting, be a new dynamic than the one from the scene before. It's a shame. Especially when we have such dull portrayals of Alice in other versions, Fiona is such a light and is so lifted off the page of Carroll's text while still be effervescent and real and likable that this really could have worked. And you can tell cause everything from the beginning to the great hall makes you believe maybe you're settling in for the perfect Alice film. Oh well.
