So when they create an age do they also create the people? How else would the people inhabit these ages?

At 7:10 you talk about the attractions being hypothetically buildable and I wanted to pick up on your nitpicks with even nittier picks: I actually rebuilt most of the Legoland attractions in real life and let me tell you, with some of them they didn't care at a certain point. You can easily notice this when playing the building animations frame by frame and see a significant section that appears out of nowhere. Specifically bad cases of this are the LEGO Toy Shop (Along with the 2 other attractions using that roof), the awnings on the LEGO Clothes Store, anything circular like the bases of the Spider Ride and Helicopter Ride, and the Ice Cream Wagon where the umbrella plainly doesn't exist, as well as Adventurer's rides specifically the road of the Car Caroussel and the Earth Slide. Most of the attractions are done beautifully where, if you played on the DgVoodoo patch to upscale the resolution, you could individually count studs and rebuild the entire thing flawlessly. Sometimes I struggled with finding correct color replacements or pieces clipping into each other but it's clear that the designers spent a great time in Lego Digital Designer or IRL to build these. I have a great appreciation for this game which is why I felt compelled to build it for real and I'm touring throughout Germany to show it off at conventions. I love this game a lot and thank you for paying respects to it in this great review!

I can imagine this working as a mobile game for kids. Something to distract them that's actually good for them, rather than the rubbish we see nowadays..

I got to this game but I wasn’t able to finish it. I had the wrong system for it and it didn’t work. I got stuck on Spire when I crashed. I’ve since been able to finish it. This actress playing Yeesha was incredible in this!

Trap books are tampered linking books, when a trap book is destroyed the person inside is simply transported to the proper prison age.

I loved this game as a kid. In a way, it's almost like a simplified version of Sim City. It'd be so cool if Lego could release another game like this. Because who HASN'T wanted to build their own Lego city?

I didn't grow up with this game, and i'm 16 (as of now), yet, i bloody love this game. Most kids of my age just remember or talk about Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga and such, i even prefer the PS2 versions of Lego Star Wars games. But what made me love this game more over the others, is how LEGO it is, i like early Lego and its own more in-universe stuff, which Lego Island follows, whereas most Lego games are just licensed stuff, and too formulaic, not too Lego themed for me, and i didn't have much trouble setting it up, i don't think you really needed to say "don't even bother if you're not in for nostalgia", this game, just has so much personality.

I'm so glad that a new generation is still playing these games! You are so right, new stuff is so cookie cutter basic. Old Lego had heart to it!

@@necrovarius225 Not just Old Lego games, but old Lego sets, before the 2000s and licensed cow that it is nowadays. There was a vague beauty that Lego Island perfectly complemented to old Lego, the vagueness powered the child's imagination, and made it all work together. Lego Island is pretty much that, i can imagine Lego Island sets, and characters, all working with any other Lego set if i had, and such. Nowadays, Lego is just, too specific, and not a beautiful simplicty that opens for infinite possibilities that is all up to you, which is why Lego Island also has so much potential, it doesn't really have a theme, so it can be so much, like old Lego.

Something I've sometimes wondered: what exactly does Atrus do for food, and for bathroom needs, while he's in Kveer? And what is the player character supposed to do during the time between Myst and Riven?

Achenars torture chamber was the scariest thing ever. I remember playing these games with my dad and also by myself. It was just a creepy experience finding the downfall of the boys and I remember being so sure Sirrus was the worse brother and then finding their rooms

The original realMyst had a Easter Egg where you could gas yourself by turning off the gas. It also had a lot of picture you could look at using the viewer. This version does not have that, though you can view some similar but different ages, including one that shadyparadox has dubbed ""Baked Potato Age".

Another quick note: I read that apparently the trap books are actually just "artistic license" and a retcon. The books were still being written when the first two games were made, so the lore wasn't fully set in stone, but sounds and sights do not transmit through a linking panel. The real canonical answer is that Sirrus and Achinar were in normal full ages, but simply did not have linking books to get back, nor the ability to make new ones. The "stuck in a void" mechanic was kept to keep things simple for the gameplay and story of the game.

Oh cool! Nice videos by the way! I kind of went down the Myst rabbit hole. Again. Again... Again. As an unrelated musing, every so often I wonder what's happened to the D'ni (earth) descriptive book. I guess it doesn't matter, but since people can still make linking books to earth, that would imply a functioning descriptive book. So... Where is it? A riddle for the ages. @@necrovarius225

The Channelwood book has a crucial map. The upper wooden paths is basically a maze, so unless you look at the map first, you may get lost. Though I found an easy way to get to the place you need to go: Just follow the right-hand path until you reach the mechanism to open the door, then keep following the right-hand path until you get to that door.

I thought I've heard or read all possible descriptions of the Riven events but new facts are being presented here. Amazing work! The vid is less than 45 min BUT incredibly informative, packed with all important facts and nesessary explanations. Wow!

The three pages you use to draw the three symbols came from Saavedro's journal, as there were three blank pages in the back; they disappear as you use them to draw the symbols.
