Why doesn’t someone sort the measurements to make the whole thing simpler? What’s with all those 73 inches and five eighths ? It could be so much easier and quicker without fiddly fractions of inches. May I suggest back to the drawing board .

Currently on a job site following exact instructions and the gap between the posts should definitely not be 91 inches for anyone building this. The rails come in at 92 1/4 inches and if you set posts with 91 inch gap you will be cutting every single rail. Like I am now.
@noahzander65817 ай бұрын
Why 91 inches between posts. The rails are 92 1/4 inches. Meaning you will have to cut every single bay. Stupid.
@edmundrose67596 ай бұрын
Noah, the nominal post centers are 96". Because the posts are 5"x5", the span between the posts is 91". Because of the expansion/contraction properties of the composite material, Trex overruns the nominal measurement during production to ensure the minimal length is met. The intent is to ensure the material is never short. The trade-off is that it will require cutting the boards if they are longer than 91".

What do you do for odd sized sections? How do you rip or secure pickets if it's not an exact fit
@TrexFencing7 ай бұрын
Chet, rather than rip a picket, pull all of the pickets so they interlock then space the last two next to the picket that is screwed to the post. Use finish nails to secure the floating pickets. Chiefordnance, as noted in your other comment, you bring up a good point about putting in the time and brainwork for a proper installation. Whether it's Trex, wood, vinyl, or otherwise, missing key elements of the installation or not accounting for changes in terrain, hole depth, or final post height can make the top (and bottom line) of the fence uneven. The install tips on the product website provide insights into using string lines and adjusting measurements to make sure the rails flow smoothly down a grade (or even on flat ground) by installing the brackets properly. Contractors or DIY customers that take the time on any fence installation to consider the artistry and mechanics of building a beautiful fence can shift from "good enough" to "wow!".

What if you have a short section
@edmundrose67592 жыл бұрын
Tanir, Trex Fencing materials cuts like wood, so if you need to reduce the height or width, you would use fewer components or cut them down. If your section is short by height, cut the pickets and posts. If the section is short by width, cut the rails to length, remove the excess pickets and if the pickets don't interlock perfectly, float two of them and secure them in place with fasteners as noted in the installation guide: trexfencingfds.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/12/Trex-Seclusions-Installation-Guide-Dist.120619.pdf

@edmundrose67592 жыл бұрын
Rich, the video was set up in a demonstration environment and the posts were placed on stands for simplicity. In a true installation, the posts would go into the ground just like wood fence posts. The posts do not need to be set to perfect 96" centers, allowing an installer quite a bit of flexibility. Instructions for cutting rails and adjusting picket spacing are located in the installation guide on our website: trexfencingfds.com/resources/seclusions-install-guides/

Does it resist strong winds ?
@edmundrose67592 жыл бұрын
Gabriel, Trex fencing performs very well against strong winds. It has been tested for over 100 mph. Keep in mind, wind is exceptionally unpredictable so while the fence can withstand high winds, a sudden burst with a change of direction could destabilize any strong structure, including a Trex fence. Overall, however, Trex performs better than vinyl and wood fences with 4x4 posts. Feel free to call 877-700-8739 if you want to discuss this in more depth.

How do you set the corner post close to the house?
@edmundrose67593 жыл бұрын
Fernando, if you have the ability to dig a hole right next to the home without hitting the foundation, it is always best to put the post in the ground in concrete. If you cannot do that, consider cutting the post to height and attach it to the house by securing bolts through the post into the framing of the home (use a 4x4 treated lumber insert inside the Trex post so the Trex post won't cup when you insert the bolts. Ensure the holes for your bolts are sealed. You can get advice on how to do this by looking elsewhere on KZbin. If you cannot secure the post to the wall or break out your home's foundation, another method is to drill into the foundation to set rebar, then sleeve the post over the top and pour grout into the hollow of the post (about 2' worth). Because of the weight of a gate, we don't recommend you use the post against the house for the hinge side of the gate. If you want to discuss any of this in more detail, please call 877-700-8739.

What about a short length? Do I need to rip the last length intalled?
@edmundrose67593 жыл бұрын
Jim, the "knuckle" of the picket shouldn't be removed because you'll need it to attach the picket to the post. In the case where you have slack in the picket line because the width of the section does not give you full interlocking, attach your side pickets to the post, insert all of the pickets and pull them tight. Float the second and third last pickets and use finish nails or composite screws through the top rail and into the pickets to keep them secured in place. You can see more details on how to do this on page 12 of the installation guide: www.trexfencingfds.com/resources/seclusions-install-guides/

@TrexFencing3 жыл бұрын
Hi Arthur, I just responded to this question on another comment, but just to add to it, hailstones are most likely going to damage any type of fence made of wood, vinyl, or composite. However, Trex will perform better overall because of the thickness and density of the product. Hail wouldn't typically break the material but the surface may show dents if the stones are big enough.

@TrexFencing3 жыл бұрын
Any fence material is likely to be affected by hailstones. However, the density and thickness of Trex fencing makes it much less likely to break than plastic fences like PVC or vinyl and it won't splinter like wood. Having said that, hail stones may mar the surface of the fence if the hail is big enough.

@edmundrose67593 жыл бұрын
John, it is not necessary to cut them on an angle if you are building on relatively flat ground. The purpose of cutting the picket next to the post is solely to give it clearance under the bracket. If you are building on a slope, cutting the picket on an angle will allow the cut edge to be hidden inside the top rail. Are the posts anchored with cement ? How far down are the posts ?
@TrexFencing4 жыл бұрын
Kathy, thanks for your question. Yes, the posts are anchored in cement. For most privacy fences in general, it's a good idea to use a 12" wide x 30" deep post hole, which means you will most likely need one and half to two bags of 80 lb post mix. Trex has post lengths in 8', 9', and 12', so you should be able to get plenty of depth for fences 8' tall or less. One note: consult your local codes to see if there are specific requirements. In most cases, municipalities require or recommend post depth to a frost line if it is applicable in an area. For more information on Trex fencing installation, visit www.yournextfence.com/resources.

Anyone else that has had this fence installed? how long did it take to construct? I'm looking to fence off my property, it's about 185 linear ft.
@TrexFencing4 жыл бұрын
Hi Ryan. Thanks for your question. If you are a homeowner and are building the fence by yourself, plan a full day to set your posts (maybe two if you're digging your holes by hand). Like most fences, make sure your posts are set deep enough and with enough concrete to be secure. Our installation guides give you greater detail: www.yournextfence.com/installation-resources. As for building each section, you can typically build one in 15-20 minutes once you get the hang of it. So, plan on a total of 2-3 days total if you have experience and some help. If you're building a fence for the first time, Trex is not hard at all, but you may take a little bit to get the hang of it, in which case, it's probably wise to block off 4-6 days.

@TrexFencing4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for your question, Ryan. Trex is not difficult to build, even for novices! Most contractors report that they can build a section of fence in 15-20 minutes once the posts are set. Homeowners without fence building experience usually take longer but get faster once they get the hang of it. If you don't have much experience with fence building, plan on installing around 25 sections of fence for 185 ft. Putting in the posts first then returning to build once the concrete is cured is typically the best way to build a solid fence like Trex. Post setting will probably take you a full day depending on how you dig your holes. Then, give yourself a couple of days to let the concrete footers harden, and finally 2-3 days to build the fence. So, if you are new to fence building , plan on about a week to build your Trex Fence. Contractors can typically set posts and build around 200 linear feet in 2-3 days. For more detailed instructions visit our website for installation guides: www.yournextfence.com/installation-resources.
