Sounds great! I would say try not to cut off the notes too much at the beginning, and make sure it’s at tempo and not too quick.

Hey! I wanted to ask about in measure 2, does the d sharp carry over to the d at the end of that measure (one octave higher) or no? I’m confused cus every video I watch plays d natural but my director say it is d sharp
@LukeVaccaMusic21 күн бұрын
@@TboneIliyas great question! Not to overrule your director, but the short answer is no. Sometimes accidentals will carry to different octaves, but not in this case. D natural fits much better in the context of the key there. And that triplet figure that contains the high D repeats itself in measure 3 with no sharp marking in front of it. The D# that is marked works well in the context of F# minor, which is the main key of the etude, but towards the end of measure 2 we move into A major for the next couple measures, so D natural makes more sense melodically in that case. Bit of a long answer, but I’m a theory nerd. What can I say? 😂🤓

What do you recommend about the vibrato in this etude and the lyrical one? How often should it be used in those two pieces?? Your videos are so helpful!!!!!
@LukeVaccaMusic3 ай бұрын
@@TboneIliyas thank you! Glad to hear it! It’s good to have a balance between using/not using vibrato, especially in Etude #2. For long notes, I recommend introducing the note with no vibrato at first, then adding it as you go through the note. Make sure you’re thinking jaw vibrato and not air. Hope this helps!

Wow this pretty good! Way better than me my sophomore year but maybe if I practiced that for a couple hours I could possibly get maybe close enough to your skill at that piece. There was a single part in there that wasn’t perfect which I’ve like never seen before and that’s when you have a change from 4th to 3rd position and the notes sounded almost the same. One super slight mistake on that piece is ridiculous
@LukeVaccaMusic4 ай бұрын
That was a test! 😂 Jkjk. I think I know where you’re talking about. Goes to show how quick you have to move the slide! When making these recordings, you learn to live with those super small things occasionally happening, or else you’ll drive yourself crazy lol. Good eye/ear!

This sounds amazing! But I do have a question, would those glisses and things you do to spice it up in this etude give us less points at region? I'm just curious because I would like to play it in this style but I don't know if it would benefit or hurt me.
@LukeVaccaMusic4 ай бұрын
As long as it’s tasteful and well-placed, I don’t think there’s anything wrong with incorporating some of these elements! In these types of ballads, there is a lot of room for embellishment to keep things interesting. Just as long as it’s not too often or too forced.

Hey I’m also a trombone player and ur like 100000 times better than me. What’re your tips on jaw vibrato and how differs from note to note?
@LukeVaccaMusic6 ай бұрын
Keep practicing!!! With vibrato, variety is the important thing; speed of vibrato, whether you use it or not, etc. Listen to the greats and compare how they use vibrato, particularly on the same piece of music. Also, be sure to listen to what you’re playing while you’re playing to help formulate your stylistic decisions. And sing through sections of your music! You might surprise yourself in what musical ideas come about from singing. Hope this points you in the right direction!
