Leave the Judgment and Vengeance to God There will be times when someone hurts you, and your gut reaction will be to seek revenge. First, this goes against how the Bible tells us to respond. The verses before and after Romans 12:18 state: “Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone. If it is possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Do not take revenge, my dear friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord (Romans 12:17-19).” What should we do instead? Simply put, we should pursue peace with everyone and strive for holiness (Hebrews 12:24). Through following Christ’s example of holiness and peace, we will be shining examples of God’s love here on earth. Imagine how different the world would be if all Christians made every effort to live in peace with everyone! The writer, Saint Paul, says we should live at peace “If it is possible, as far as it depends on you.” Paul recognizes in a sinful world there will be times when peace is not possible. However, as Christians, we must live peacefully and encourage peace to those around us. Furthermore, Jesus reminds us it is because of Him that we can have peace in a conflicted world. “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world (John 16:33).” Dear God, As I awaken to this new day, I am reminded of the immense power of love and compassion. Your boundless love for us all is a beacon of hope and healing. Grant me the ability to love unconditionally, just as you love me.Amen
