Wow... I've never seen an iPad stand like that before. That's so handy! Looks like you had a great holiday celebration with family. BW continues to be one of my favorite areas in Germany. It's so beautiful there!

That just looked a busy, busy time, but you have to make every second count when you are with the family. I bet everyone needed a rest after the time spent together & with Christmas, all routines go out the window. 😵💫😄 But worth everything.

Genuine question: Why do you post these so late? Does the editing take a lot of time or thats just how you want your upload schedule to be? I am saying this because not a whole lot of people watch Christmas videos in september. Cute video btw
@meetthewengersАй бұрын
I only post videos as a hobby and have taken extended breaks from editing because I needed it in order to maintain balancing the rest of my life. I edit when I can, and I upload whenever editing is complete.

I've had lipedema since I was 13 and I've been fatshamed and bullied from relatives, ignorant medical staff, kids, boys and men alike throughout my life. No matter that's it's a degenerative, incurable condition- if you're a woman, your JOB is to look pretty, so you have no worth and are thus worthy of no respect if you have lipedema (and among those who do seem to finally get that this is a bloody DISEASE, nobody allows themselves to believe that there's no actual solution, of course, and so they'll suggest that you SHOULD do something more about it). And God forbid you have a crisis and cry about it after decades of bullying; they'll just make light of it saying "it's no brain tumour". Well, then stop making me focus about it no matter what?!?! The worst part, in my case, is that I have a mannish face as well, so I've never had the chance to go on a date... which will automatically translate to me not having anyone helping me once my lipedema gets to the point where I can't do basic things.

Guys, never let your kids on the ice without their gloves - with all those people around they could lose their fingers if they fall.

After COVID-19, lockdown drivers are so much more rude! Even here in New Hampshire, speeding over 100 mph is really becoming a problem. The key to using your jacket as a car blanket- put your arms in the sleeves.

Both times, my husband was stationed in Germany (US Army), he would have asthma problems because of the air quality. Had to do with the type of coal they burn. Things weren't any better for him the 11 months he was deployed to Bosnia. Inhaler at the ready. Back in the US, the only time he needs an Inhaler is if he has a bad cold that really affects his lungs. Glad things are better for Elliott.

I think the National Zoo in DC is also getting new pandas after they sent the last ones back to China. It was the same situation with the last ones that moved to China, with one that had been born in DC.

You guys are the sweetest, really, and I love watching the kid's joy. But I think you're overdoing it a little bit on Nikolaus. We only got things that fit into one boot, which is how it was originally supposed to be. Some chocolates, nuts and tangerines and we were so happy! Sometimes less is more.
@meetthewengers5 ай бұрын
What the kids get each year from Nikolaus is just as much a surprise for us as it is for the kids. The only consistent family traditions are Christmas books to read during the month and new pajamas. We have several German friends whose children open large gifts from Nikolaus. That works for them. Luckily, it's a wonderful tradition that can be adjusted for each family as they see fit.

I've been living in Germany this time since 2014, and I haven't been home since then. I can understand that feeling of losing yourself and missing your culture... On the other hand, it's been good to be here, for so many reasons. I'm grateful I've had this experience, even though sometimes I miss the US.
@meetthewengers6 ай бұрын
I agree. It's a mixed bag of emotions. And interestingly, whenever we go back to the US, I am desperate to find people who understand what leaving the US feels like! :)

Nothing wrong with doing the holidays with your nuclear family. The last year that my husband was active duty Army, 1997, we were in upstate New York. Being a four day weekend, we could have easily packed up and made the 7-1/2 hour drive to have Thanksgiving with our families in New Hampshire. We decided to stay home as it was going to be the last time we would be able to have a Thanksgiving dinner in an Army Mess Hall/Dining Facility. Army Medical Units have some of the best chefs/cooks! The boys also had ready access to soft serve ice cream machines that they got to operate themselves. When are oldest was 3 years old, 1983, we were at West Point, New York. Small hospital with the dining facility in the hospital. It was a big room with one very heavy door that a 3 year old couldn't open. We went with our best friends, family by choice. Everyone in the room knew the 3 year old belonged to us but so many of the twenty something year olds that were there were missing out on seeing younger siblings, nieces and nephews, it wasn't a hardship to share him. He was an outgoing kid and loved the attention! After eating his dinner, it didn't take him to long to realize if he wanted more soft serve ice cream, he just had to stand at the machine and smile at the next adult that came up for ice cream themselves. 🍦 He made a lot of new friends that day. Again being in the lower part of New York, we were a 6 hour drive from family but decided our military family was more important that year. Just got to pick your battles and do what makes you happy!!!
@meetthewengers6 ай бұрын
I love this so so much. I can totally imagine a sweet 3-year old happily getting his 20th serving of soft serve ice cream! Thank you so much for sharing all of this with me.

Don't ever feel as though you are not good enough. Learning about you & the family has shown your commitment to do the right thing for your family & to adapt to ways you would otherwise naturally react, by now, being in a different country. That adaptation has now passed & you are strongest when you are being yourself. You do know that you do have "distant" friends from your viewers & commenters on here & so try to remember that you are not alone. I hope this current year you get to engage with fellow expats from the US & can feel that bond from all being an American & understanding each others feelings. Your culture is as big as any other in your family & must always be a part of your children too. Keep smiling & be proud of yourself.

I think it is not an unusual feeling to not be interested in food once you have been preparing & cooking it for the time it takes to eat it. Even more so when you spend so much time preparing the special occasion meals. Have you tried eating your main meal at lunchtime & can "go light" in the evening, with the family? It may mean a few changes to your day routine, or pre-making food you can cook straight off, or cook your meal with the others & chill or freeze it & eat it the following day at lunchtime etc I didn't notice the lip until you mentioned it. LOL
