Hi, thank you for making this video! I'll be trying this out myself in a few weeks. Do you have any advice on dying a solid dark grey/black on 100% superwash Merino wool? I'm using Dharma acid dye in True black, I'll also be doing a large batch of skeins, about 15 100g worsted weight skeins. I have all of the equipment/utensils shown in this video. Any advice would be super helpful. Thank you!

It is for sure! I hope you find a garment pattern that feels just right and give it a go. It is so much fun! 🙂You could always make it a slightly smaller one at first, and learn as you go. Maybe a vest? Don't be afraid to try! 🙂

I actually really like the long sleeves as they act like having fingerless gloves on too. The colours look great on you and the jumper itself, we are always out worst critics but I think it’s lovely 🤗

The coloured thread is so that you can identify what yarn you are dyeing. They don’t bleed and a good idea to keep till the end. I dye a lot of bfl silk and merino silk. The ties help me keep the two apart as they are so alike

Thank you for sharing. Are you making repeatable recipes? If you are, could you please show /teach how to make a dye book notes please. I tend to write word for word. Another question I don’t have pro chem fuschia etc will jacquard do if they make it. I do have landscape and some Dharma.

Ah, that is an interesting idea for a future video. For now, I can share that my notes are pretty much just bullet points, where I note what yarn I used, which dye and how much, how much water I used, and what technique I used. Technique can be i.e. that I added the dye to the water before adding the yarn, or that I used a teaspoon to sprinkle it over the yarn, or that I sprinkled dye by hand. In the webshop I have free downloadable dye sheets that might be of help, if you want to take a look at that. You can find them under 'Digital downloads' at anilovecreations.com. You can use any brand of color you like, and you can mix and match different brands, just make sure they are all acid dyes. Different brands do have different colors though, so a fuchsia color from one brand will not be identical with a fuchsia from a different brand, so you will have to just test and try until you find the combinations you are happy with. Start with small amounts of dye, and add on more as you go if you want a more vibrant and colorful result.

I have had terrible sciatica pain and was encouraged to get a pillow specifficaly for between my knees . I use it every night and even if I take naps. I am 74 years old and now have no pain and can walk and stand much better. Hope this might help you.

is the stove set to medium heat?

As soon as the water is closing in on boiling I turn the heat down enough for it to just stay hot. It is not supposed to boil or simmer, it should just be hot. The exact temperature may vary from stove to stove, so you need to just test what works best for yours. 🙂

I've watched quite a few people dye yarn and you are the only one who doesn't flip the yarn to put color on both sides. In this case, it looks like the yellow goes most of the way through but the green is only on top. How does that work out when working the yarn? Isn't the green uneven? Hahaha! And then as I'm typing this you go and flip the yarn, this is the first time I've seen you flip it. So what makes you flip some yarn and not flip others?

Haha! I sometimes flip it and sometimes don't, and it all just depends on what kind of effect/result I'm looking for. If I have a full pan of skeins and want to make sure there is color covering EVERYTHING I will always flip it, but if I want maybe just mostly speckles i.e. I might just twist the skeins slightly before putting them in the pan and just sprinkle dye on the top side. Since the yarn is then twisted, there will be speckles all around. So, it is simply a matter of what type of effect/result I'm looking for. 🙂
