This is why there are recordings. To go & play & hear the song exactly the same every time. In terms of live music concerts, I want the song versions that particular night to creatively take the original recording to a whole other level. That's what I love about live music.

Not when you can’t recreate the recording like the original and you’re getting a watered down version

@@dcjoe3876 On the original studio recording of this song about 50 yrs ago, there's a fade out ending. On the famous long live version also from 50 yrs back, the back & forth improvisation between the late saxophonist Don Myrick & Mr. Bailey is clearly referenced in this version 45 yrs later by saxophonist Gary Bias & PB. Which has always been a nice callback for those in attendance who remember experiencing the band live back then. Creative musicians playing live nightly bringing back memories while injecting a freshness into said classics has always been a win. Indeed on this particular song, this is exactly why the live album version is known more all these yrs later than the original studio cut. Live creativity at the moment. Meanwhile back home I can play the original album cut endlessly if that's my preference.

And when one goes to a live concert wants to hear just like the original as possible especially vocally the instruments adds to it but the vocals are in our psyche and the mind is like a recording studio matching itself with what it hears and heard when deviating from what originally heard settles for less while hoping for the recording even LIVE!

@dcjoe3876 As stated when I go to hear a live performance I don't want to hear everything played or sung exactly the same as on a 3 minute single that I've got home. I've never gone to any live concert with the mindset of " I want the band to play & sing this song just like on my cracked 45 ." What's the purpose of attending any live performance if that's my mindset? I can just stay home and play the single in my collection from years ago on repeat! Case in point these 2 musicians featured in this video- Gary Bias is too great a musician to just come out live and repeat note for note a solo from 50 yrs ago. And Mr. Bailey on this song & the other classics has been switching up the middle & ending sequences for decades now. The last time I saw this band except for the opening & closing of this classic, the middle section showcased Philip improvising fresh over the changes in a longer version . So the live audience got a throwback version & a new spin on an all time classic at the same time. As a listener of live creative music, that's a win win both ways. Judging by the crazy reaction of the wild audience that night, that long extended version hit home with them as well.

Imagine being a 10 year old boy in his bedroom listening to this song on his record player when it first came out. It was the first time I heard the voice of an angel.
Time to retire. This from a fan that goes back to "THE NEED OF LOVE", "THINK ABOUT LOVING YOU", and "SWEET SWEETBACK'S BADASS SONG".
