Yeah, that's really nice and differentiates enough from other, similar, slump buster style bugs. I'll be tying some up.

Thanks, great video. Why are these versileaders not used more for still water indicator fishing? They seem to make sense for that too.

Great question! I think these are fantastic for lake fishing as well. Not sure why more anglers haven’t tried them…

How would you compare this to a Lamson reel? Seems costly for a non usa reel?
@TheNorthernAnglerFlyShop
@TheNorthernAnglerFlyShop 22 күн бұрын
The Spectrum LT is a great reel. Definitely a little more stout than most Lamson reels. Great sealed drag system that you can rely on. All metal construction where a lot of Lamson reels use a poly housing for the drag internals and clickers.

Such a marvelous idea !! Streamers don't always have to be bulky & massive. I also like the addition of the eyes, as it helps to make the offering a bit more realistic. Thanks, David Fisher-of-Men Fly Tying Ada, MI

Nice fly! I tied have a few of these last year but this year, I have done much better on tying these, which I tied a couple of copper ones with eyes to give it some action in the water, then a green one that is supposed to be peacock color but the flash is more like Kelly green in a way. I am tying them up for coho in the Kenai river, which I have many other colors to tie them up in and I am going to swing them for the coho or even big rainbows or dolly varden if they take interest in the flies. I will do some without eyes like you have here as well to change it up on action in the water.

@@TheNorthernAnglerFlyShop I do know that they will work for the coho but had this last trip not even a week ago, I had a rainbow take the copper one and our coho run is not so great this year in the Kenai river but the pink salmon are also not in big numbers either. I still have a little time to try to get a coho on this fly but the first ones that I tied last year, I did have a coho on for a bit to lose the fly from it running into something that cut my tippet. I use Karluk flash flies in the same colors I will tie this in but I like these flies because of being able to tie them to change the trailer hook if needed because I have had hit some snags with the single hook up eye salmon fly hooks to destroy the fly from it bending out, so I know that I will keep on tying this fly to replace those single hook Karluk flash flies.

Do not mistakenly leave sunflower seeds in the pocket of your waders when storing them or else mice will eat through anything and everything to get to them. Don't ask me how I know that... I won't be taking any questions.

This might sound sadistic but one thing to point out but, mice can’t actually fight the current in most rivers especially the smaller field mice or hopping mice. Next time you go out shake a few of the tag alders and try to get one to plop in the water, they usually have their head perpendicular to the bank and make a big wake going down stream trying to fight the current. Helps to imitate that if it’s a real bright night or the fish are very finicky.

How good is the Liquid for saltwater
@TheNorthernAnglerFlyShop
@TheNorthernAnglerFlyShop Ай бұрын
I would say the Liquid is saltwater capable but I don't believe it was really designed for the demands of saltwater fishing where gear can really be pushed to the limit. The Liquid Max might be a better choice. It has a drag specifically designed for the salt.

I own, and enjoy, quite a few of Echo's rods. However, a friend and I casted his 8'8 Echo Musky rod with SA Titan 11 full intermediate and the impression wasn't favorable. Tomorrow, we are going to swap lines from my older Echo and his Musky rod and see what, if any, improvements occur.

Curious to hear back what you thought. Of course everyone has different casting styles and wants different action. We loved the Echo Musky for its action and unbelievable value. Hope you found some fish!!!

@@TheNorthernAnglerFlyShop I barely touched my buddies musky rod the first time. The second time we got together I thought we should swap lines and something was just off... I looked down and started to laugh! My buddy, who is predominantly a trout angler, had accidentally put the line on backward! He'd been casting the running line! He said he thought it looked odd, but when he pulled the line out of the box the tag read "reel" on the head end. Right on the shore, we stripped the line off the reel and loaded it the right way. Amazing how much better the rod and line casted after that!! He was embarrassed but is a very good sport. We got some good laughs. I'm hoping to cast his rod a bit more when he comes down again to practice his double hauls.

The ‘rubber legs’ I find look wimpy next to those. Where can I get beefier ones?
@TheNorthernAnglerFlyShop
@TheNorthernAnglerFlyShop Ай бұрын
Great question. I find that silicone legs, despite their durability, lack the "life" of rubber. Barred round rubber from Wapsi (linked in the description) are what I'm using here and Barred Sexi Floss from MFC is another great option that offers more durability and life than standard Sili Legs.
