I have a lovebird with same picking patterns, but not as severe. My vet suspect’s polyfolliculitis due to some infection combined with certain genetics. But another thing is that his eyelids are a bit discoloured and not a grey as the other lovebirds. I was suspecting the itching was due to liver failure, but if the diagnosis is polyfolliculitis, then I still don’t have a explanation for the eyelid discolouration. He has been tested extensively: bloodwork, ct scan. He had a very low active vitamin d level, which is usually due to very low uvb levels. But in this case, supplementing vitamin D based on the bloodtest showing ok levels of bile acid and adding a uvb light, did not improve antything in two months. Also another reason I was supecting the failing liver. Diet has also been changed to lafeber, so he still gets his pellets instead of picking all the seeds only. He is far from lethargic or anorexic. He bursts of energy, but keeps having the itchy skin

I always admired your work and demonstrations, Dr. Perry. I learned all the skills from the best of the best. I never thought I'd be rescuing birds from my uncle's place when he passed away. I did all their medical care you name it, I did it. Except for surgery to remove a tumor on the female cockatiel we had, I left that up to the vet who also worked at the zoo besides the clinic. Now years have passed and I'm retired, or disabled too. But I still possess my skills with many animals, but my speciality is birds. A rehabbed needs my help bc she only knows about bunnies, but I told her I'd pass on my skills to her or we can work together, thanks to you and your ytb videoes. I hold you in the highest respect bc you are The Bird Whisperer.

Thank you Dr. Ross Perry for teaching me all the care even vet tech procedures showing how to work with birds. I learned a lot. I even was able to rehabilitate a yellow bellied sap sucker and release it back into the wild. It also helped with some birds we rescued from my uncle's place where they were not being cared for and in a terrible building with no food or water and messy cages. My uncle had passed away and my cousin wasn't taking care of the birds. I rescued them with my dad and took them back to my parents' place and nursed them back to health. I was able to draw blood from the jugular vein and send the samples off. Surprisingly, their tests came back negative for several diseases. They were in good health with me. I had invested in trauma kits a vet would love and was able to buy a lot of supplies and meds from vet and animal supply catalogues and on the internet. It had stuff for dogs, cats, birds, etc. I had the money for all the things needed well past first aid. Anyway, I worked mostly with cats and dogs, but I even had a leopard gecko before we acquired the birds and my sister had a hedgehog. I even worked with the animals and exotics at Petco and grooming dept too. I've gotten experience in just about every field or career with animals, settling for vet clinic work and I started out as a kennel person but they had me giving shots and meds and doing a lot of tech work too. I learned about birds from the best, you! And I enjoyed every minute of it, except for the sad stuff. I also learned from books and videos here on youtube. Never thought I'd have a lot of skills normally that a tech would have, but I learned quickly and with practice. Thanks for the awesome videos!

Hello doctor! My female budgie is pregnant... Her vent is swolen... and I am concerned because she lays eggs every month which are not fertilized...I bought a male budgie for her and its been a year since i bought him but i keep him in a separate cage as he chases her ,(he plays with her) but she gets exhausted (they even preen eachother) ... recently I bought a big cage for them and decided to keep both of them together in it... its been 3 weeks since they are living together in that cage... she got pregnant again but she is not laying her egg and her vent is really swollen ... I separated the male budgie from her as he kept chasing her , didn't let her rest for a moment and she couldn't eat properly as he would follow her around everywhere.... its been two days since i separated them (he is in a different cage which i keep beside her cage) but she still hasn't layed her egg... she has started to breathe heavily with her wings open all the time.... she is still playful and immediately jumps on my finger whenever i move my finger close to her...the breathing and tail bobbing (she is panting alot) maybe because its 45°C in my country ... please tell me what to do i am super worried .. i luv her so much i dont want something to happen to her (shez two years old by the way)

DoctorRossPerry I have 2 budgies, Star & Luna , sister's who are coming up to 4yrs old. Just recently, Star has started squeaking when she breaths, and her tail bobs. Apart from yhat she is her normal self. I have been watching the videos of Casper you saw, who had same problems. I listened what you told them regarding the paper on cage floor, food, but Star is still squeaking . The perches in the cage are natural ones with bark anyway as I don't like the others. Can you advise me please as I don't have any avian vet near me. I look forward to any advice you can give me. Thanks, Josie
