Take your kayak to Shelton Lake! It's stocked with Kokanee and has wild rainbow trout. Both are the best tasting fresh water fish. I normally troll for kokanee to one end than fish for trout and troll back. It's up past Second Lake in the mountains and only open on weekends. You'll have to check Mosaic map since they own the roads for logging and close the gates for fire prevention, but they update every Thursday with gate hours and openings for the weekends. Btw watch out when wearing waders on a boat. If you fall in, they get filled up with water and make it almost impossible to swim. They make a pant version made for boats called a bib.

Thanks for the tip @Suspicious0ne ! I was up at first like the other day checking out the area. Any bears?? I was thinking of bringing my dog with me and trying for rainbows on a slow troll. Ive been having luck using a small pink hoochie. As for the bib, ya I put those on because we launched out of Charlaine during low tide and I had to hold the boat. Normally I don't wear em fishing but it was a bit chilly and wet that day! See you out there!

There is a slot limit in area 17, I'd have to check DFO regs but this one wasn't over. DFO are strict here and frequent the area and launches.

Out of curiosity how much drag does that downrigger setup result in. Namely do you think a paddle based kayak setup could pull that off? I have been trying to pull the mooching method without much success.
@keeponfishing9189Ай бұрын
Yes paddle method will work if you have a good rail installed. With a 4lb ball the drag is minimal in calm water. Another method you can try is using a "dipsy diver". Lots of guys in California use this catching salmon. You can pick one up at any fishing store and just attach it to your line. They go up to 80 feet depth where u can catch coho no problem!

Incredible fishing in our backyard! The red/white coloring of that spring I call those “marbled” chinooks. I’ve caught a bunch of those in the rivers. Absolutely nothing wrong with the meat just different flesh pigment.

I still can't believe we live here sometimes. This is my second marbled Chinook caught in these waters and I often wonder how this happens. This was a wild one.
@Goats22Ай бұрын
i think the marbled ones are a result of a white and a red spawning in the same area of the river. my theory anyways.
