I was enjoying a beer one evening in at a hotel lounge in Spokane WA while I was visiting the city. This would have been around 1984 or 85. The manager came out and said a guy was playing the next night and wanted to warm up on a small amount of people and would we be cool with it. We all nodded our heads and out walked J. J. Cale. I might have been the only person there who knew who he was, so I hitched my seat up to the stage and started buying him beer. We talked between songs he took my requests, and after he played himself out he came and sat with me and we talked until the early hours. He told me stories about life on the road and how he was happy just playing small venues. He wasn't one for the glitz and glamour of Rock and Roll. I liked him, alot! I've been a fan of his since 1971 when "Naturally" came out. Not only is he one of the best singer-songwriters but I consider him as also one of the best guitarists in the world.
