Sadly he didn't played Medtner's cadenza, it's literally the best cadenza for this concerto!

Superb work as always! I’m currently stuck between Antal Doráti and Slatkin’s recording of Tchaikovsky’s Sleeping Beauty Ballet. Do you have any recommendations for recordings?
@EppurMusic4 күн бұрын
Thank you for your kind comment! Both Doráti and Slatkin are very solid choices for Sleeping Beauty, they're among my favorites too. But I would also recommend the Gergiev/Kirov (on Philips) which is really superb.

Sir. This is extremely brilliant version. I'm glad I found it. If that's ok may I ask what vst is used here? Is it something like synchron vsl pianos or something? Very fantastic sounding. Thank U and sending good energy. Your vids are pure pleasure. I'm looking for best piano vst for practice couse I'm away from my upright btw... ))
@EppurMusic19 күн бұрын
No VST was used here, this is a real recording by pianist Hironao Suzuki. The piano you hear is a classic Steinway Model D.

I'm delighted to find your video here of this wonderful recording by Hironao Suzuki! I have the CD including this, and I agree with you that this is a great recording of the Symphonic Etudes! He was fairly young when he made the recording and is still a young man, but such a sensitive and passionate player! I hope many others will come across this video and take the time to listen to it. If you love Schumann and the Symphonic Etudes, this is an especially rewarding recording!

Buniatishvili plays this piece with a kind of stillness that reminds me of Satie. A truly special performance. Also, I always liked that little variation in the reprise (at 3:14).

wow its been 3 years now since ive first encountered this performance! time flies with passing time this recording has grown on me and with the added musical maturity ive gained im starting to recognize more and more how interesting Gillham's dynamic choices are very individual and rather idiosyncratic at times it often has the clarity typical of modern piano performance and while my usual problem with hyper-concise playing stems from a lack of individual voice and adventurousness Gillham certain dosent succumb to those issues and god the pedaling throughout is just so distinct ! outside of the technique and rational the emotional presentation of a work as significant as the chaconne is a grand task to take on and it never feels like he is being over sentimental and simply presents it as it is (which funnily makes the emotional impact more authentic for me)

Actually schubert has some great counterpoint composing abilities than his contemporaries, which makes his pieces very personal to its listeners

I’ve always been a fan of zinman’s mahler 2 but DAMN this is something 🫡 amazing choice of recording and work as always brother 🤝
@EppurMusicАй бұрын
Zinman has always been a very professional conductor. If you can find it, I highly suggest you listen to his series of Rimsky-Korsakov recordings, also with the Rotterdam Philharmonic on Philips/Decca. It comprises some of his best work as a conductor (the best Russian Easter Overture!) along with his cycle of Beethoven piano concertos with Yefim Bronfman.

This is an absolute masterpiece. The orchestration is visionary and the main tune is just unforgettable. As usual, the recording is stunning, easily one of the best I've heard! It's both rhythmic and very transparent, which is quite an achievement in this fiendishly difficult piece.

This is a brilliant quartet, can't believe I haven't heard it before (still hasn't quite knocked Grieg's G minor quartet off the podium as my favourite though). And what a vivacious performance!

Grieg's quartet is really intense, it would deserve to be more popular, for sure.

No one talks about the genius harmonic progression at 42:06 At 42:12, it follows the original theme present at the beginning. (IV -> V7) The sudden dissonance at 42:15 (V7 -> V7 b5) brings such a romantically nostalgic sound At 42:16, it returns to the original progression present at the start (V7 b5 -> iii) Rachmaninoff’s genius uses the bV7 to accentuate the ii, the melody literally sounds like a nostalgic sigh. I think this is a tritone sub of VI leading to ii (with some fancy voice leading) basically bV7 -> bV7 #5 -> bV7 -> ii Then III7 -> III7 #5 -> III7 -> vi -> vi6 Def my favorite part of this whole movement
