Good video. However you definitely don't have to crank it down that tight, just want it similar to installing an oil filter just a bit tighter. Vise grips and a guy laying on the wrench was a bit much.

@@j887276 The fastening ring on this car had a lot of corrosion. Wasn't putting as much pressure as it seemed, threads were just gunked. And to replace that piece, the whole hardline would need to be replaced. Plus also with high pressure fuel (especially on this car) will find a way to leak if things are not tight.

Kudos for the video, for those looking for the vacuum hose measure the diameter of the fitting or take the old one to the auto parts store. I'm going to just grab a length from the store as mine is cracked.

Thank you so much. Took the noise away from our Vue that we have had for two years. Made noise since we had it. This tutorial was excellent. If you don't know where to tap to release the tensioner, because it's hard to see in the video- get a rounded edge tool and push the chain where the tensioner pushes against it. This will release the tensioner. Didn't have a 1-1/4" socket, ground a wrench to size and made do. 🤙

Thanks guys, been hard starting bad and noticed that vacuum line was spraying a little gas so just ordered a new FPR. Quick question, my vacuum line is all kinds of broken and they are discontinued, What size hose do I need to get that will work for that... just prepping everything out.

I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY MALIBU 2.2L ECHOTECH ENGINE. IS THERE A WAY TO DO THIS WITHOUT REMOVING THE STARTER? HOW WERE YOU ABLE TO LINE UP THE TOP HOLE WITH THE STARTER IF YOU CANT GET YOUR HAND IN THERE EVEN IF YOU USED AN EXTENSION? DID YOU HAVE A PROBLEM WITH A 340 CODE AFTER USING THE AUTOZONE PART. I ALREADY PAID A MECHANIC TO INSTALL THE AUTOZONE CRANK SENSOR AND I STILL HAVE THE 340 CODE. I CHANGED ONE OF THE SPEAK PLUGS SINCE ONLY ONE OF THE 4 PLUGS I LOOKED AT REALLY NEEDED TO BE CHANGED AND THERE IS A NEW COIL PACK AND IGNITION CONTROL MODULE INSTALLED AND A NEW MAP SENSOR. SOME REVIEWS ON THE AUTOZONE WEB PAGE SAY SOME PEOPLE THAT USED THE DURALAST AUTOZONE PART ALSO HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE PART AND ALSO GOT A 340 CODE.

Thank you for the great film. Probably the Fuel Filter on our 2003 Chevy Cavalier is also behind the Charcoal Canister. It would be very hard to find it without this film. I have Shop Service Manual for this car, but they don't describe in details this procedure. They give torque for Fuel Filter Fitting (I think it is that large 13/16 nut) 20 Ft-lbs (25 Nm) though. Did you relieve the Fuel Pressure before this work? In the Manual they describe the Relief w/special tool - Fuel Pressure Gage (J34730-1A). I saw in another film that it can be done just by removing the Fuel Fuse and starting and running the car until it stalls. I did that on another car (2001 Saturn SL2), but not sure if that can be done on any car including 2003 Chevy Cavalier. I would appreciate any opinion on this question. Thank you again.

Great video, just replaced the tensioner on my Saturn LW200. I deviated from your technique and would like to share this. After using zip ties to secure the cam gears to the chain, I used a bungee cord with a metal hook and threaded this through the exhaust cam gear sprocket and applied a healthy amount of torsion to keep the chain taught on the tensioner side. Then I carefully and slowly began threading out the old tensioner while watching the cam gear/chain as it will retract the chain guide towards the tensioner and maintain contact with it which prevents the tensioner piston/spring from falling into the engine well. The bungee keeps the chain taught preventing it from skipping a gear tooth on the lower crankshaft gear. The intake cam gear seemed stuck in compression cycle since I did not remove spark plugs, thus no movement could occur. All the chain slack will occur between the two cam gears, so the crankshaft sprocket will remain taut. Using a flashlight while threading out the old tensioner will you let visually see the guide keeping pressure on the piston so you can feel confident it will not drop into the engine well. Installing the new tensioner is easy as the bungee will subside as you thread it in. Now using a screw driver, push on the chain where it meets the tensioner piston and the activation will occur leaving you a nice, taut chain and you will have saved $1000 in labor and have a properly timed engine that is quiet. Splendid fix for a $30 tensioner part!

No, to fix that you would need to get the shifter rebuild kit, I'm not sure if they are as common as they used to be, parts for these cars are getting harder to come by.. And only one of us owns one now and it's been done on that car already so sadly no tutorial video in the future for that.
