Mr Tissier is a real Master and a real teacher ... we all thank's him for what he brought to the poeple learning here in Europe .... that is a great thing to get such a Master out of Japan ... He can be easily compared to japanese Masters by his high technical and spirit level. He dedicates his life to Aikido practice and has teaching a lot of poeple on this Martial Art. For this we have to thank him.

If you are looking to train to “hit”, “harm” or “engage in street battles”, do not practice Aikido. That's not Budo.

@@simonromanrodriguez785 No, Budo is about hit, harm and engage in battles. Part of the root of budo lies in violence, war and destruction. To deny it is to deny the 武 in 武道. If this truth is not faced, the heart of the technique is completely diluted, resulting in an incomplete path which generates indulgence, weakness and false realization. What makes Budo to be _Budo_ unlike the classical bujutsu is the _Will_ behind the intention. You teach how to hurt without hurting, exploring the limits of violence to understand violence. It is essentially the discipline of finding the light in the darkness and understanding that darkness is nothing more than the absence of the light. One does not reach the light without facing the darkness. That search is the universal search for human fulfillment. That is the 道 of 武道.

This style of Aikido has stripped away many of the overly complicated and impractical techniques, and teaches in a very clear, concise and organized way. Nariyama-Shihan is not only a fine example of Shodokan, his spirit of humanity and joy of practice fill the Hombu Dojo. I am so grateful for my time at Shodokan. I think some of the waza here are not taught anymore. Is this true? Or, are there some waza that are only given at Dan level? I did not make it to shodan at the Hombu, so, I presume either old techniques or Dan level stuff. Too bad there are only 4 or so Shodokan dojos in the states.

Tissier being very disrespectful to the greatest Aikidoka of all time. If it wasn't for Seagal, Aikido would not have gained the free publicity and explosion of students in the late 80's and early 90's that it generated. Seagal is head and shoulders above Tissier in Aikido. You can tell Tissier is jealous of him in this interview.
