I have talked to you on the phone before about painting my Opal GT. What would be a good day to ride up to your place and get a key for my gas cap
@mudpuppyto10 ай бұрын
how do i get my gas cap off the car with a lock that does work. the key turns the lock both ways but does not turn the mechanism to remove the gas cap. the gas cap still spins in both lock and unlock key positions
@Opelspyder110 ай бұрын
Sometimes, you are just screwed. Sorry, but if the cam on the end of the key cylinder breaks, and it is in the locked position, then it can turn either which way, still messed up

hello I was curiuse to know culd those old engines work with out baterry?
@Opelspyder1 Жыл бұрын
There is a battery on the engine stand
@Opelspyder1 Жыл бұрын
Jamica, you have to fully disassemble the cap, there are two retaining clips and a spring that hold the swivel cover on. I’ve had these rechromed before and they do not turn out good. The details of the blitz are usually lost
@jamicadiamond1271 Жыл бұрын
Sure would have liked to have seen how to get that sliding lid off got a couple I'd like to have rechromed the rest of the bottom caps a real nice but the swivel lead could use re-chroming

Luv it. Anyone who has ever opened an Opel GT gas cap, and held it in their hand comments. It's a sold, quality, sturdy built item that leaves an impression... if you drop it it'll leave a dent. Thankfully my '73 looks new, on the outside, and works perfectly.

I just got my first Opel GT a few weeks ago. It had been setting outside for decades. At first the headlights would not work at all without manually opening them from outside. After soaking them with Knocker Loose for a couple of weeks they work but don't lock. I was going to tear into them with no idea how they actually functioned. Thank you for your videos. Now I'm not blind going into this.

Well putting these back in the car that is already painted is hard. The micro switches must be wired first. I had to remove the bracket on the back of the light assembly and remove the front post holder just to get in in the hole. Getting the bracket bolted back on the rotation headlight mechanism assembly is very difficult in addition. I taped up the housing and the body and it's almost impossible not to chip any paint. Be patient. It's easy to want to cram these back in :)
@Opelspyder15 жыл бұрын
If you are getting that close to chipping paint, your bodywork to the headlights may be off. I tape them too, but many times, its not even an issue. I've even installed the wrong side onto the opposite side and didn't come close to chipping and it worked.
@5chrislynn5 жыл бұрын
How are you able to wire the micro terminals with the lamp installed? Is there a technique.
@Opelspyder15 жыл бұрын
You cannot wire the microswitches with the headlights installed, everything comes out, the mechanism as well, because the microswitches are behind them

I've never had it dyno tested, actually the engine suffered a catastrophe and is currently being rebuilt. It was pretty wicked in the car though.

Keith is cutting his contribution short to this! The car came back from a shop in random boxes with no "bagging" of parts or organization. Then went to 2 other shops that made it worse and even stole and sold parts from it. I was embarrassed by what I took to him and his crew. A project of love for the woman I love. Amazing to me what he has done here!

That's a pretty convenient tool you've got. That splined box end that is. My GM 12 bolt truck requires me to have the yoke installed for this process. I've found a yoke adapter for a breaker bar on Amazon, but the customer photos show the thing bent badly. Only one I've found though. I'm going to try a crush sleeve eliminator instead and do a final torque on the pinion at 150 lb-ft. Yours seemed fairly easy, yet some say it can take as much as 300 lb-ft on some pinions.
