Whenever the spectral realm warps things like those pipes that become a walkway, it's such a drastic and specific change compared to the rest of the environment that I like to imagine it was somehow built intentionally. Like Nosgoth's building code has to account for both the material and spectral plane. Some architect is like "Bob, I need you to build these pipes specifically is such a way that they'll blast a hymn lethal to vampires when air flows through them in the material realm, and also form a walkway to that catwalk over there in the spectral realm." And the engineer's like "I understand exactly what you mean, boss, absolutely no further explanation is necessary." 🤣

Just finished SR1R yesterday myself and YT recommended me your video and i'm going to enjoy watching a fellow fan play through it. The remaster looks and runs so good, even on my OLED Switch and it was a pleasure to play, even though it took some time to get into the flow again, because there is basically no handholding, compared to modern games, and the game expects you to pay attention. I have both originals, for PC, in a moving box somewhere, but being able to play it on my Switch is just perfect for me ❤

Loved your video of your playthough for the game.Ive played all Legacy of kain games back in the day on the PS1 and PS2.I just got the platinum trophy today on Soul reaver and I saw u were trying to get the trophy for gliding for 30 seconds without updraft,I got it strange enough in Zepions cathedral in the second updraft where you drop the 2 pipes, but if you just glid there for 30 seconds and drop on a pipe you can get the trophy, I know it sounds pretty cheesed but it worked for me 😆

I remember playing Soul Reaver for the very first time on the PS1 all those years ago, and completely misinterpreting Ariel's cryptic hint "like a corpse in a shallow grave, corruption rises to the surface..." I found the Nupraptor's Retreat / Stone Glyph area long before I ever noticed the climbable wall in the Sanctuary - I figured one of Nosgoth's earthquakes had uncovered the stone skull hidden ages past and thought that was Ariel's meaning about the corpse :D I don't know how long I spent, jumping from the various cliffs and jawbone area, shifting between planes and exploring every inch of the stone glyph shrine and the retreat looking for the right path to continue. I played the demo of the Sunlight Glyph area you mentioned on another PS1 game "The Unholy War" as the demo was included with that game. Soul Reaver Remastered is an amazing piece of work, and you can see the dedication and care that has gone into it, and I'm glad both original fans and newcomers to the Nosgoth world and story can enjoy it all anew.

*Yet another excellent playthrough!* 🍻 Couldn't watch it entirely last evening, sorry haha! Regarding the Fire Glyph, I was surprised when you used the torch instead of the Fire Reaver honestly, but it's only because I always use the Fire Reaver, as we get it just prior. However, I can't go through this section without reminding the playable demo that came out before the game's release, which featured this very level. My dad has some SR1 and SR2 demos which I also played, that's why. I remember there was no Reaver, and we had to just get the torch from that pool as you showed, there was otherwise, really, no other way. 👍 I was just surprised they kept this in the full game. Would've been more interesting for the Fire Reaver to be required at that point. Would've given it even more purpose imo.

Excellent playthrough and commentary. I played SR2 at launch, and at first I thought that the Sarafan Stronghold was the same location as the Drowned Abbey, but in the past. It would make so much sense, given that the Elder God describes the Abbey as a sanctuary against the vampire menace.

58:38 Continuing on with my train of thought... I was about to say that "Even back in the day, the original game used to glitch out like that, where the next part of the world just wouldn't load in, you could jump into the void and an ominous message would appear and say "Streaming". That was on PS1 too."

The Soul Reaver games have some of the best writing I've ever experienced. Amy Hennig managed to pen a time travel story which actually MAKES SENSE. Most writers completely drop the ball when it comes to that, but she made it work beautifully. And the dialogue, especially in SR2 and Defiance, is incredible, backed by amazing voice acting. Her and Drew Karpyshyn are by far the best writers in the video games industry, bar none. Fun fact: Simon Templeman also voiced Dr. Doom in one of the Marvel animated shows, and did an absolutely fantastic job there too. Only reason he's not my favorite is because I keep thinking of Kain when he speaks, which certainly isn't his fault.

Speaking of the original graphics at 16:24 everytime i look at raziels cowl at the back it almost looks like theres a demon face there and in soul reaver 2 the original graphics make the back look almost like a spider!

Yay! I was looking forward to the continuation of your playthrough! 🍻 Personally, I always get the "pizza slice" from the Human Citadel before fighting Kain, in order to obtain the first health upgrade basically, as Kain will always "one shot" Raziel, otherwise. It allows for some margin of error at least. While it's not a difficult boss fight, guessing where Kain spawns could be tricky for newcomers, I think. Nice work on getting the achievement btw! 👍
@Glaiceana5 күн бұрын
Thank you William! Yeah its definitely worth getting it for the Kain fight, but I figured I would skip it as was aiming to kill him in one for the achievement, so wouldn't need it, which was ambitious for a first attempt in a while haha!

I got a demo of this game when I was 8 years old. It showed a gameplay video and let you interact with the title screen, but that was it! I spent years trying to get the full version here in Argentina, and when I finally managed to play it and control Raziel, it was truly an epic moment. I think the music and art are just as important, if not more so, than the gameplay itself.

In all seriousness though, I’m so glad these games are finally getting the love they deserve, I remember having an old PlayStation magazine with a guide up until the Rahab fight. But sadly I never played it when it originally came out, my first actual physical copy was soul reaver 2. I fell in love with the series back then, and I’m so glad to see it still has such a strong loving community.

So let me explain something about these remasters. They took the PC versions as the base for these games. You probably only played the console versions, but the PC versions already looked pretty good in comparison. They couldn't use the PS1 game of SR1 it wouldn't have worked. So they used the PC versions of both games and did some heavy code changes and some heavy tweaking and adjustments and such.

To be honest I'm fairly certain i played this game when i was around 7 or 8 years old watching my dad play it on the ps1 then again when soul reaver 2 was released, I have just always loved seing the intro to 1 aswell as listening to the sound tracks, and now i get to play it with 60fps or better even tho its been about 20 years im still at awe of the intro, I only hope that this series will get a continuation with full modern grapics especialy how they teased us with the trailers. The cinematics in the trailers just looked abouslutely stunning just wish they made a setting that let us see all the cutscenes the way the trailer was.
