You actually don't need any certification to start a business in Canada. But if you're talking about getting registered as an Interior Designer, then you do need a Bachelor. However, not all design jobs require that you be registred.

As a 65 year old who both worked for companies and has/had their own business I would say EVERYTHING depends on your personality. If you are the type that your livelihood defines you, then own your own business because that is going to be the first thing you tell someone about yourself. If work is just one component of who you are and you have many other interests then just work for a company where you go home at 5pm and forget about it.

I am a type C and oh boy, do I ever but heads with type As I mean, yeah, type As definetly get things done but as the perfectionist that I am, I just can't stand the sub standard products that so many type As want to put out into the world since they value expediency over quality.

@Eric Lee Wish more cholerics did this since they are in many leadership positions and many of them don't know how to curb their harshness and end up alienating subordinates. I guess this wouldn't be a problem if there was an infinite supply of workers ,but nowadays you have to treat your workers better.

I think most folks have a primary one at 60 to 65% and 25 to 35% of the second and a tiny percentage of the third.

I'm thinking I might try and start up while doing a degree on the side. Like the best of both worlds. There's an urban splash project happening in my town I think I might go and take a visit see what I can learn. I'd love to design some furniture or signage for that site.

I think the Metaverse is a huge area of expansion for designers. The digital realm is where its at from Designers helping with gaming scenes to Developers using the services of a designer to design their metaverse properties. Quite exciting actually!

I agree with what Eric mentioned. Would love to hear about some important accreditation required/ would be great to have as a residential interior designer compared to a commercial interior designer.

If you're are planning to be doing mainly residential projects, then accreditation isn't as important; unless you want to do it just as a personal accomplishment. Some commercial projects will ask if you are accredited during the bidding process. Hope that helps.
