Hasek was perfect that night. He had to be or else. Maybe the best goalie performance ever. Brodeur was also. Devils, however, would win this series in 8 games because game 6 was really the same length of 2 games. I wonder if they would've beat the Rangers if they had beaten the Sabres in regulation or in OT that night??? Who knows?

Two nights later, at the Meadowlands, the Devils showed their character, and won, 2-1. A month later, they lost a Game 7 in double overtime to the hated Rangers. The following season, they should their character by winning the whole thing. The Sabres are still waiting. With their luck, 2005, the season that was canceled, would have been their year to win it.

A great team.

I’m not even a Sabres fan, but this is one of my favorite hockey memories. That building was INSANE that night and I was excited as hell.

Immortalized in hockey lore, mainly because of this great voice of hockey. RIP Bob Cole.
