Used to live on Binney Drive just a block from here. Old Ed Binney (the inventor of Crayola crayons) had this channel cut to establish a port at Ft Pierce so he could ship out oranges from his groves.

My late wife, Patricia and I lived on Binney, two blocks from the park (you actually fly over our house). Loved to watch the wind surfers around the jetty then scoot down to Archie's (we actually went to church at Archie's for a while). My son had a boat, but it was about 2 feet long and required a radio controller.
