17:45 if this is still relevant: you can have four of a kind as undeclared kan and riichi with it, but that would mean that one of the tiles goes with the sequence, and three other form a triplet (or two go in a sequence, and two for a pair). So you won't be able to kan it after you riichi, as it would change the structure of your hand. But as you already know, you can declare a closed kan while being in riichi if you have a triplet and draw a fourth one.

Therapy it away is the universal answer for almost every problem card in the format. Alternatively try to already have a flipped Ajani on the table since it doesn't hit Planeswalkers, or slow roll out my threats.

How would you compare play online with non pro vs in person with non pros? I feel in person pros would be even crazier compared to them online. I can’t read discards or walls for anything in person, let alone online.

Online vs IRL there isn't much difference. Friendly game vs tournament/league is where you see the big difference in play.

I see 1st and 2nd in those runs, don’t beat yourself up too much. I’m just sitting here enjoying judging my calls vs yours and trying to learn. I’m still floored by how much the Pros push hands, and ones that aren’t even high scoring. I don’t if they can see the discards like a god or just are more aggressive.

It's called Ron Ron (or Ron2). It's built off of the same code as Tenhou. It's used by the JPML pros and requires a paid subscription to play. The entry fee I paid for the league pays for that sub. ron2.jp/

Our local Mahjong club plays WRC rules. No aka Dora, No nagashi mangan, no mulligans(9 terminal/honor, 4 winds, etc). I believe 4 Han 30fu is mangan though. Kan goes Draw > reveal > discard.

I'm saying "iishanten". Ii meaning 1 and shanten meaning distance from tempai. We say iishanten, but then often I'll hear people say "two-shanten" when you are two away. Don't ask me why they switch it.
