Politely asking if you can have the wheel with a few laps to go is a new one on me. That was pretty awesome:)

Excellent video! I liked the limited talking, hearing gear changes, and jockeying for position.

Great and interesting video to train with. I’m a former roadie/graveler, just got an Mtb and didn’t know what to expect on the trails. Thanks for making this, it’s really helpful.

Glad you enjoyed it! I'm also a roadie who more recently got into MTB; definitely made a few mistakes in here and still learning.

could you race this on a gravel bike or is that just a bad idea?
@danielshamburger8 ай бұрын
I think it's possible, but probably gonna be a little slower in the singletrack than MTB.

Super impressive to watch this unfold. Definite benefit to drafting others with massive skills. Those gravel bike guys were killing it at speeds too. What gearing is on that bike? Tire pressure? Tires? Rims? Which Power meter? You were in the mix the entire hour here. Rolling. I did this race quite a few years - way back when 26" HT was still the only option. Last time I was there was on a 26" dual with 650b rims.

Yeah, good amount of drafting, you definitely don't want to be caught out in the wind if you don't have to. Agreed, I could not have navigated it as well as they did on a gravel bike! 34t chainring, 11-50 cassette. Around 21/19 PSI in Maxxis Rekons on Reserve 30s. Garmin Rally XC power pedals. I'm sure a lot has changed, but at the same time, it's still the same good hard time!

THANK YOU very much for your video! I have Iceman Cometh on my bucket list, and it is really nice to see a video of someone riding at about my speeds. I enjoyed your enthusiasm and your upbeat spirit. Your closing message is excellent, talking about the garden variety riders pushing their limits. Maybe I will see you next year if I can delay a knee replacement.
@ 9:07 😂 I was like oh that seems like a lot of speed...

Thanks, you too. Yeah, definitely not easy when redlined on an unfamiliar trial. Ha! I'll keep that in mind next time.

Did they do two crits this year? I’ve only known about the Sunday event on the ‘island’. This is the first year in over 10 that I didn’t make it down there.

Lol it needs some maintenance I just haven't had time to take it in. Some combination of bottom bracket and rear IsoSpeed decoupler creaking.

The hill going into turn 3 is tougher than it looks in the video. You need a BIG gear on the downhill finish, or you'll spin out.....I never crashed on this course, but I've seen some nasty ones on all the corners. PS. Were free laps over when you went off the road?
@danielshamburger2 жыл бұрын
This was my first time on this course, but I heard the course goes up a different road than it used to, and the hill is smaller. Oddly the crashes this race were all in the straightaway just from it bunching up when everyone was trying to move up. Unfortunately yeah, but I wasn’t sure in the moment and hesitated before trying to chase.
@billkallas17622 жыл бұрын
@@danielshamburger Yeah, this is the original Winfield course. There is another course, a mile north that is more than twice as long, that goes through a subdivision, with a long uphill and 8 corners.
