Very nice. Well crafted and executed. Action, humor and atmosphere in equal amounts. Everything a short story needs and done by peoole who know their craft.

This actually seems more realistic without the undercranking used in actual classic HK fight scenes.

Yeah that undercranking is quite heavy. It lets them do quite clean movements though as instead of going 110% they can go 99% and focus on the techniques and get them clean. When you go really really fast, the technique tends to drop slightly.

@ The hyperkinetic undercranking does make it look pretty damn cool for sure. And all those super fast indie fight scenes back in the early internet days seem to be the best example of excellent yet somewhat sloppy form which I never realized until Eric Jacobus mentioned it.

History says that we don't. You can look into any disaster, whether natural like a hurricane or manmade like the Siege of Leningrad, and most people co-operate. That's why there are still people alive even in utterly lawless places like Somalia after more than three decades of civil war. But there's certainly theft, and accidents can happen, and people get carried away. So this story was much, much more realistic than most postapocalyptic stories.
