😂 Well there’s plenty that I’ve not heard of I’m sure, I’ve only been in the synth game since 2020/2021. The GR-Mega is a granular flagship synth… it ms like the Lemondrop on sterioids! It’ll be ace if it’s sound engine is as good as the Lemondrop’s… maybe it’ll be better… Yes I agree with you, such a contrast to when I was younger in the 80’s and 90’s… gear wasn’t cheap, especially not synths or good keyboards. Oh yes nice 👌 That stylophone theremin looks cool… I watch a couple of reviews on Saturday… not seen much on the Grind but I know it’s similar/form factor to the Crave etc. Haha 😂😂 well just see how it goes… I’m definitely heading into the Behringer 2500 range as soon as money allows me to after getting the case I mentioned… Anyway… if space is low… just build upwards 👆😋😉 A 3-tier stand? Or even one of those 6 or 7 tier Jasper stands 😮😂💎🫶
@RainerMuenz12 күн бұрын
Oh yes, I googled... a granular synth. Nothing for me at this time but great sounds can be produced. And I have seen it before. I watch videos about gear every day, this helps me learning. No chance for big stands here. I only have a table that I can use for a few hours. So everything I do is connected just before and will be disconnected after. From the case to the table and back into the case. This needs always an extra hour or even two sometimes. That's why I always have different setups and make different sounds, depending on the time I have. I am happy to have the smaller Zoom mixer now so there is space for an extra desktop synth on the table. But I need the bigger mixer when I want to do overdub recordings, e.g. for adding the theremine. I still prefer recording dawless. 🙈
@rickhopkinson12 күн бұрын
@@RainerMuenz Ah yes I know how you feel, while I was at home practicing and recording before going back to the garage where I do it now, I used to pack into a wooden table and then pack back down… times change though so you never know what round the corner… maybe just a two level small stand for the table top 😉 I get where you’re coming from and especially recording dawless… I usually record into the zoom H4n and then do post production in the daw. And if there’s a few instruments I run them into my small mixer… but actually the H4n sound crisper and better than the mixer… Eventually we may both get a great quality mixer for recording as many channels as we want! 😱🌈💎

Although I have a house, the rooms inside are not really big, and we have too many things... currently I try to find shelves and other places for all my gear, boxes for all the cables, and so on. I might sell my record collection someday, then I would have a small room for a little studio, maybe... but not sure how many synths I could use with the installed electrics. I don't mind. It is as it is, and I am happy to do what I can. But that's the reason why I am limited with video recordings playing the synths. No nice professional area around me. But I do have ideas for videos and already bought some equipment for room decoration... maybe when there is vacation around Xmas. 👻💀👀 The H4n is really great, and I like all my Zoom gear. With the Livetrak L6 I have 10 channels but 4 stereo, so actually 6 instruments. 2 stereo channels can be split to mono, so there is more flexibility if needed. The L-12 has only 2 stereo channels, so I often use mono channels together for stereo synths. And I have two Behringer MX400 mini mixer, no recordings possible, but 4 mono channels are combined to 1 mono channel. So I combine my Behringer mono synths and send the sum to my effect pedals, then I have 1 stereo signal for a Zoom mixer. And while playing I do not only tweak the synths but also the mixer. 🙂

@RainerMuenz12 күн бұрын
@@rickhopkinson The SH-4d is great as you have a synth and a groove box together. More a synth than a groove box, fortunately, so that's a difference to the Novation Circuits. But you have three parts for synth sounds plus a forth part for drum sounds that you can combine together in a sequence. Or you just play it like a normal desktop synth, tweaking sounds, using hundreds of presets incl. emulations of other Roland synths. Or do all at the same time, the polyphony is high enough. The Sonicware is a bit too lofi in my opinion, at least I thought so in the first time. While playing I was not happy with background noises... but well, maybe this was something else as this noise disappeared in the recordings. I am not into the synthesis yet and still play with (tweaked) predefined sounds, but this is already much fun. Both nice to have synths for this kind of music.
@rickhopkinson12 күн бұрын
@ Yes they sound good to me, I bet you’re having fun with them… I was looking at the Liven when considering the GR-Mega and the Lemondrop… it did look good… I still have my eyes on a GR-Mega but will save it for later if I still like it’s engine after more demo videos… I need to hear more diverse samples being granulated because most of the demos so far, although good, all sound very similar… That Roland does look interesting, I watched some of the Loopop review earlier after your message… It’s great to have gear like this isn’t it 🙏🏻❤️👻
@RainerMuenz12 күн бұрын
@rickhopkinson Have to check the GR-Mega, is there really a synth that I haven't heard about? Honestly, I don't know what it is. But if you are considering it, it might be worth a look. 😉 We are living in a fantastic time concerning the possibiltiy of getting good but affordable gear. Currently, I have two on pre-order: the Stylophone Theremine and the Behringer Grind. When available I will also order the drone synth by Stylophone. No more plans then. Too many synths and not enough space. I said I will buy all Behringer mini and micro, but I might avoid the bigger ones (well, most of them, I guess). 🤣🤷♂️

I was not really happy with the noises I made in my first attempt but I see the potential of the synth (when in the right hands). It has so many possibilities. Next time I will use the Proton alone and find out how to create nicer sounds - for this video I had to combine the two synths (otherwise the headline wouldn't be right). Their behaviour after patching was not what I expected (but I guess this is just my lack of knowledge what should have happened) and I found it easier to use both on their own instead of plugging them together. @@rickhopkinson I absolutely understand what you mean and fully agree. And that's why I bought many more instruments to play with, to test their abilities, their workflows, the combinations with others - and I found music and soundscapes that I was not aware about. Like dark ambient music. Sure, I knew it from movies, computer games etc.but had no idea how these sounds are created. Jamming in this or other directions is what makes me happy today. Recording bits and pieces, sharing with others, is an additional and previously unplanned benefit. Some sounds are accidential results, others are planned - but it's still far away from composing music. I really enjoy what you are doing, and I am looking forward to watching more of your videos (every day a few of them). I am much interested in the gear other people (like you) are using; interesting to see the 2600 amongst your equipment (this was and is not on my list due to practical reasons like space and workflow). It's a new hobby for me and it's just the beginning of a hopefully long trip.

@@RainerMuenz I love that mate… and trial and error I think is a good approach… I’m self taught in music composition and don’t know theory deeply… but just jumping in does absolutely no harm in my opinion. Since I bought my first synth and started sound designing and making patches, I’ve been hooked on synths. Originally I learned electronic organ from my grandparents in the late 80’s and then added electric guitar in the late 90’s… piano to me is played similar to organ so I class them as one… probably shouldn’t etc. Trial and error has been probably my main approach. Learning chords first. Then experimenting which sound good after the other…. Then find melodies. At the moment though the dark ambient cinematic that I’m doing, I jump in from different angles and approaches and it works and it feels free in that sense. I know what you mean with sounds in movies…. So many were synth based, but I didn’t know. Synthesis is a whole world in itself isn’t it. I’m genuinely really happy you like my work mate! And I’m happy you’re going to work through my videos day by day 🙏🏻💎💯 please let me know your thoughts on them 😋 I think my Hydra and 2600 have the edge on being my favourites… I’m lucky to have them… still paying off the Hydra 😬 It’s a truly awesome hobby and great for the mind. Please do keep going and let’s keep going together… it’s a great community on here…

@rickhopkinson I am sure you benefit from learning the electric organ a lot... and I would also think it's quite like playing the piano. Not the same keybeds of course but playing chords and melodies is probably quite comparable. And that's what I recognize when watching your videos. There are nice and well-played melodies embedded in atmospheric sounds. I like the combination although I also like the pure drone sound. To be honest, I made the beginner mistake buying a keyboard first rather than a synth. I thought about a MODX+ but it was also a decision of money. At this time I didn't know if I will become a longer hobby or frustrating. I thought synths are too hard to learn... but I was wrong. A friend had a DX around 1987 and I was fascinated what he did with it... but it was my wife who told me last year to give it a try, and I was impressed by the current Yamaha keyboards. Only two months later I bought a Modwave (that's why I don't buy the excellent Hydra) and then some Behringer's, a MicroFreak, Waldorf Streichfett... a Roland Sh-4d is on my wish list plus the forthcoming Stylophone drone synth. The journey continues and it's great to be not alone and see and learn what others are doing and talk about it. 😀

I don't think that it is defective. The differences are easier to recognize now than on this phone recording. However, I will check if there is a new update.
