Destro's Mauser... frequently (really all the time) pop culture fans refer to firearm magazines as "clips." As in "he put the next clip in the weapon." But those are magazines, an ammo carrier which is inserted into the firearm then later ejected once empty. A "clip" is different. A clip is a mostly-straight length of metal which grips the firing caps of the ammunition, and is not inserted into the firearm. Instead the ammo is very swiftly pushed off of the clip and often into a magazine, or into a firearm. This issue ACTUALLY shows a clip being used, not a magazine.

In the fight b/w Duke and Risk, the hold Risk has Duke in is called an arm bar. With his MMA training, it makes perfect sense that Risk would realize Duke's strength and use a grappling technique to balance things out. The image with both men in the air is likely inspired by several MMA fights and something mimicked in pro wrestling on a nightly basis. If an armbar is locked tight enough, rather than tap or have your arm broken you can pick the person off the ground and slam them hoping to knock them out and at least loosen the hold.

I don't know a single person reading Energon Universe so it's not to have you guys going over this stuff. Given what is going on in Void Rivals, especially this week's issue, I feel like maybe you should be covering it a little, but it's awesome to have this too.
@talkingjoecomics7 күн бұрын
Thanks! We tend to record once a week so it's difficult to have the space for Void rivals too. I was thinking about doing a void rivals catchup at some point. maybe we summarise other gi joe related events in the energon universe in these episodes.

@talkingjoecomics that would be awesome! My LCBSO was telling me it's the lowest selling of the three. I don't think people realize how important it is to the overall story.

I haven't been the biggest fan of Hama's stuff of late, especially most of IDW run but I have to say, I have been loving the last few issues of RAH and this past issue is one of the best I have ever read. I had goosebumps through most of it. I never knew how much I need a Ninja Force / Dreadnok team up in my life. Also, Destro was the man in this issue. I have a couple of questions for you though. 1. Why does the joes care so much about the baroness or why do they seem so loyal to Destro? What am I missing or forgetting? Is it something that happened in IDW that I forgot? 2. I feel like Cobra Commanders armor should be able to with stand Destro's wrist missles or at least more than what it did. I know Hama is just wraping up the story but I always pictured that armor being a bigger deal. What are your thoughts? Thank you. Love the podcast.

1) destro has been an unofficial ally with the joes for some time going back to issue 57, 78, 116 in the original run. More recently in Snake Hunt, he invaded Springfield to help the Joes rescue Snake Eyes. 2) that's a fair point - i think it was an element of wanting to push the story forward. Also the suit is described as bullet proof but not missile proof

Since Destro and his Iron Grenadiers already have the Dominator and the Despoiler, and Overlord has his Dictator, I'm going with "Defiler" for the VTOL.

A cool element would have been Cobra Commander/Destro ordering the technical subordinates, let’s say Tele-Vipers, to figure out how to shutdown the laser rifles. The tension could have kept building as more Cobras were being shot down. Plus, it would have shown the “on the spot” tactical awareness of CC/Destro. Versus the “I planned for everything contingency” one button push. Still, a GRAET ISSUE!

Once he went full-on defense of the Snake-Eyes movie I stopped believing he had the best interest of canon in mind... Just another writer/creator bought out by hollywood. Tragic, he wrote a great origin story in the comics.

i may be wrong but i read that Archie Goodwin(RIP) may have borrowed the character of Cobra Commander from a DC character named Kobra.i say that because the physical similarities between the DC villain and CC are too similar to ignore.
@talkingjoecomicsАй бұрын
Kobra looks more like serpentor who came several years later. Goodwin would have just suggested the name (borrowing from the baddie teams like Hydra). He could well have been aware of Kobra but wouldn't have been involved in the design, which was down to Ron Rudat for toy and probably Herb Trimpe for initial comic appearance

I don't know you, but I like you. I also love GI Joe. You have more experience than me at this You Tube thing, but if I could be of assistance ... Do what you do best. It's not unboxing. Others do that so let them do that. What you have is a keen mind that observes. Imagine redoing this video to 5 minutes. Cut everything but showing us the figure as it relates to your observations, eg the crossed out Joe tattoo that you pointed out. You're the first to say that. I think you're brighter than most in the space so focus on that and let others do the nuts and bolts of unboxing. I hope this is helpful because it's certainly positive. If you didn't have talent, I wouldn't have bothered. Love the hat, by the way. Very cool. "An international podcast" I'd say. I'm watching you from home in Uruguay.

Thanks for taking the time to comment. We are a comic focused podcast so that is we put our energy. This was relatively quick and was only done because I got sent some toys - otherwise I'm not spending lots of time on the toy element of the Joe brand on this channel. I dont have any illusions and know that there are plenty of other people that do toy coverage better. It is in addition to, rather than instead of our normal focus.

In regards to CC costume it says back in issue 55 that the costume is traveling " in mufti" an Islamic word that means to dress as a certain profession or archetype. Civilian camouflage

In the UK, it is a well known word. At school we have "mufti day" where you can wear your own civilian clothing rather than in the school uniform

That final shot feels to me like something that Mike Zeck would have drawn during his Cap run. OR, maybe, (I forget who was drawing DD during the Born Again days, and I refuse to Google it, maybe Lee Weeks...), Daredevil running into Cap with his arms crossed. That's the energy of it, if not a direct homage to a particular image.

I was a little disappointed with the issue. It was “OK”, but I was expecting “Really Good”. The ending fell flat with me. The EU has done it many times already, so I was expecting something new. Maybe that’s on me, they showed who they were, so I should have expected it. I know it was oversized, but it didn’t feel like it. Again, I liked it, but I was expecting to enjoy it. Oh well, There’s always issue 2!
@Bleak51702 ай бұрын
Same. For the way this thing was hyped up I was expecting a little more. I do understand there has to be a fair bit of set-up for those those who didn't read the minis though. And I absolutely HATED the ending. If that's what we're going to be doing to key characters in the very first issue I don't know if I'll be sticking around.

I’ll throw in my agreement. Everything so far from the Energon universe (with the exception of Void Rivals which I do not read) has been excellent. Yet maybe because of the hype that has lead to GIJOE…def felt like a let down. But again it’s only issue one, I’ll wait till this first arc is done before making a final judgment

Joshua Williamson did an amazing job so far. I literally hated Cobra-LA as a kid. But the way he worked them into the cobra commander story line was excellent. He truly gets who cobra commander is at his core. That series read like kinda like a horror story. He made the commander cunning and ruthless and truly the world’s most dangerous man. Then also at the same time making an Amazing Duke story all while weaving the energon universe into both books. Wish I was rich to produce a Netflix series and future movies with this guy lol . Looking forward to the rest of his great work.

I'm enjoying the current story arch. But I hope at some point they bring an end to the whole zombie and cyborg story and do something thats less sci-fi/horror. I agree with the assessment that Springfield is being used too much as a location, it would be nice to see new locations. Also it would be nice to see more focus on other characters, I'll always like the ninjas, but there are so many other great characters that barely get any spotlight.
