Even with the Spur, most of the strategies are almost the same as what you see here. The main technique to know is that you can charge a Spur laser and save it for later by using the item screen to change weapons. The current WR on the Steam version uses the Spur, please feel free to take a look: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hnObent9Z66eicU By the way, I'm using the Machine Gun mostly as an experiment. Using the Spur is probably still slightly faster, but it's unclear because each weapon has its own advantages and disadvantages. (Sorry for the late response, and for not knowing Japanese)

It's actually not, but speedruns of this level have traditionally always been based on the in-game timer so that's what I'm going with here.

Does unequipping and reequipping the booster somehow allow you to increase the momentum of your boosts?

Normally, releasing the booster (or running out of fuel) instantly halves your speed. But if you unequip the booster mid-boost, it doesn't do that and you get to keep the speed. Well, if it's after an upward boost, you'll still have gravity slowing you back down, so you'll have to re-boost and do it again repeatedly to avoid getting crushed.

Sick run! Any idea why CS+ (Steam) didn't save my recording? The best and last recording are of me dying at the boss at 1'55"xx but I got S rank with 1'58"xx or something like that...

Does the replay otherwise look like the 1'58" run that you completed? Sometimes the replays desync in the middle for unknown reasons, so maybe that is the recording of your run but it broke near the end for whatever reason.

As far as I know there’s no need to bring Jenka’s dogs separately. You can bring them all in one attempt. It will save time I believe

34:19 I suppose that my PC version has different things than yours, for example the hook, if or if I should grab it before the battle, otherwise it no longer allows Curly to be saved. but well, I suppose that the original, which I assume is the one you are playing, has the little things about it. In some parts you let yourself be tapped to stand on top of an enemy in the early levels. something that doesn't happen in my version. I go through them. it's interesting

This run was played on the Humble bundle version of Cave Story+, but there should be no such differences between any of the (official) PC versions of the game. The rope can indeed be grabbed after the fight, but only before you drown (so you have to be quick). For the enemy thing, if you're thinking of 9:10 where I land and jump off of a critter, this can also be done in every version of the game.

Cool run only played this casually but it's a fun watch, some clever shortcuts (like barely going on the bottom floor with that white speedy monster), movement slides (like that start at the destroyed egg corridor, sweeeet) and damage boosting (especially in bushlands). Also some approaches on bosses I've never seen before. Just riding along Balrog when he's in the air looks like such a flex and speedy strat to start with. Or just using the blade on it's first/second level for quick kills was actually a "oh wow, you can do that" kinda moment :p Labyrinth and sandzone didn't seem to have many tricks, just pro movement. Was never really a fan of the dog fetch quest, so I was kinda hoping there was a glitch to allow to carry all dogs at once :p but then you just skipped the sisters fight later on :D The movement on plantation and the final cave with the red ogre were INSANE. But the part with Ballos' area and that endfight was just crazy how fast it went, for a moment I actually thought I was watching a TAS :p The biggest swag was deffo starting the rocket and then taking your items back, getting on the rocket again midair and shooting on the beat of the music, NOICE! Love moments like this during a speedrun. 2 questions: Does the game not give you the best ending if you don't pick up the map at the start of the run? Since you never use it (and it takes up a slot in your inventory for a button press less) Why do you read the letter at the ma pignon fight? Was that intentional for something or a miss click?

Thanks for watching :) 1. The map is not strictly needed to get the best ending, but I need it for the double damage-boost at 9:35, since opening the map from within the inventory resets my invincibility which is what allows me to take two hits in a row. 2. The letter can be read at any point (but must be read at _some_ point in order to learn the password to Momorin's hideout). I choose to read it at the same time I inspect the badge before the Ma Pignon fight (which is also necessary in order to fight the boss), since at that point I'm already in the inventory screen.

Short answer: No, it's not. Slightly longer answer: No, because the glitch relied on a bug with the cutscene skip feature, which only the Switch version has. In fact, that cutscene skip bug was fixed in the v1.3 patch, so you can't do it on Switch now either. Long answer: Depends on which glitch you're talking about. There are two glitches used in this video: The first is the aforementioned cutscene skip bug, which only exists on v1.2 (specifically) of the Switch version. This is used to escape the Core room with "flag 4000" active, which controls the alternate drowning behavior (running a cutscene instead of drowning). The second glitch is the wonky behavior that occurs when trying to run an event/cutscene that doesn't exist in the current map (in this case, the Core drowning cutscene controlled by flag 4000), which is what I manipulate in the video to give me all of the items I want. This glitch is caused by a lack of error-checking and bounds-checking stemming all the way back to the original freeware code, but as it never comes up normally, Nicalis probably never saw a reason to fix it and thus the issue theoretically should exist in every CS version. You can mess around with this glitch yourself by editing your save file to set flag 4000 (I don't feel like explaining how to do that right now), although I should also note that the behavior you get will likely be different in every version so you probably won't be able to replicate this video exactly on PC.

In this case, this bug was actually fixed in the Japanese version (which released later than in the West) long before anybody discovered how to exploit it. Given Nicalis's track record with updating this game, it probably would have remained unpatched in the NA and EU versions, if not for a Switch firmware update that broke the challenges. Nicalis then issued a patch that fixed the issue from their end, and as part of that patch, they also brought over all of the changes made to the Japanese version, which includes the fix to this bug.
