If he doesn’t get picked, it will 100% have nothing to do with his technical or musical/artistic ability. This is hands down one of the most accomplished drummers on the planet today. The number of kit players who can rival him, in any extant genre of music, is most likely in the single digits. He is honestly on par with Tony Williams and Vinnie Collaiuta

I think it's a convenience thing in his practice space to help him hear the kicks. That looks like a recording custom kit which are considered by many the best kits ever made so you know they sound amazing.
