I love this video so much. Every so often I have to keep coming back to it to watch people get stoked on the Mavis. I ain’t got one yet but I WILL. ❤

I've also been lusting over the Mavis. I'm sure you probably have connections to Matt from his time there. Jasper Guitars has an electric guitar with many resonator features as well, called the Deja VooDoo, without the vintage look that the Mavis has. I really enjoyed the quick review.

Half rounds work great for my Weissenborns. Less bar noise, without losing too much brightness. Great vid, great story, great player, great guitar. Thanks and cheers from south Brazil!

A great video of a great guitar. There are quite a few plans out there nowadays and also a very interesting article in Guild of American Luthiers mag, by John Calkin (2010). Turns out your 'best guess' at the bracing is pretty close to some of the plans, and these were made with different top bracing configurations, anyway, but all (as far as I know) were x brace variants. As to the originals being worn out, well that depends. Here's a vid of Cindy Cashdollar playing a 1927 koa one which stands up well: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hIS8k3yer9WLm7s I feel yours sounds great and is equal to or better than any modern repros I have heard. There's a KZbin of Ed Gerhard (who I guess knows a thing or two about slide!) playing a very pretty koa that sounds dead compared to yours, although I accept this may be the quality of the recording. Very nice work. Always amazes me how loud the good ones are and how muffled the less good ones sound. PS, it's always Lindley when people say 'the first time I heard one of these ...........'

Do you ever wet the cleat and the top to allow the titebond to penetrate into the wood fibers. In other areas of woodworking I have used this technique to increase the bond strength.

So you cut all strings under full string tension making the guitar pretty much colapse and worry about pulling the new strings in just one point in the middle
@FunnyBunnyShowNYC4 жыл бұрын
There is no worry about cutting strings under full tension. You can think of a guitar fitted with a Floyd Rose tremolo system. That guitar has strings under full tension, then with the whammy bar you can collapse the tension of all 6 strings, all at once, in a fraction of a second, form full tension down to zero tension, then you can release the whammy bar and all 6 strings go back in full tension. Nothing happens to the neck or to the guitar. I know you might be asking if it's the same for acoustic guitars. They will amplify the sound of popping strings, but it's just psychological. If you break a string during normal play, nothing happens to the guitar. I hope this helps.
