These are just improv over backing tracks. Kinda just learning by doing. Putting together skills learned into actual practice. Sometimes I come away with a new phrase or idea for transitions to use in future work, but it's mainly just freeform practice. It complements more ridged drills and exercises.

I won't turn down a guitar, but even without one I can play with what I've got and if it helps someone else decide "You know what, if he can, so can I!" and then they start playing and posting and we have more music in the world. That's just as much as a win in my book, man.

What I really want is people to try and more importantly put things out there. I know I'm not going to be included in the collab, but that's not the point. Just *doing it* and putting it out there is the win. If a fat Santa looking guy who doesn't own squat for equipment, is old, and has all the bad habits from being off and on self taught for 30 years can do it, then so can you. Plus, it encourages people to enter knowing "Hell, at least I'm better than that Ubie guy..." 🤣
@guitarristae.o.d17 күн бұрын
Cool, but not a solo suited for shredding style! But, keep practicing, next year you'll be better!
@theubie17 күн бұрын
It's less of a practice issue and more of an equipment issue. Taps, Legato, fast runs...almost impossible to do on a Piezo equipped Acoustic Electric as lighter tones just don't get picked up and have any sustain even with a *lot* of assist from effects and the like. The point is more of "Play what you've got and put it out there." 100% better "shred" solo than people who don't record and put one out there. Thanks for the comment, I appreciate it.
@guitarristae.o.d17 күн бұрын
@theubie what about buying an actual electric guitar? Better than struggling with the acoustic
@theubie17 күн бұрын
That's a legit point, and it absolutely would make things easier. However, some people's situations (mine included) prevents us from having disposable income enough even pick up one of those $200-$250 entry level guitars that are really solid. Right now, I just don't have the funds for it. The point of my current playing and journey, though, is to show you can do a *lot* with a little. You do not have to sit there and go... "You know, I don't have this piece of gear, so I can't create." Will I be buying one? 100% when I have the money. But, instead of using that as an excuse not to create and push myself out of my comfort zone, I chose to do something like this to encourage rather that discourage those who might be in a similar situation. For me, this is the best I could do when I recorded it. It's not great. It's not going to be part of the collab. But that's not a reason to not do it. But I can tell your comment is in a place of being helpful, so again, I appreciate it! 🤘

So you wrote the lyrics and music, but had a machine learning program (a.k.a. A.I.) create the audio? Do I have that right?
@theubie18 күн бұрын
Yes. There's a little more to it than that. I wrote the lyrics and generated parts for the song, rejected ones that didn't fit, and did some audio work on others, combined them, generate more, process repeats. Finally, a mastering pass in audition and more edits to clean up some parts, and one final mastering polish pass. I'm in the process of taking the tracks from the album I wrote that this is off of, including several that I didn't release, split them to get individual stems, then re-record the guitar parts myself to breathe more human interaction with the tracks. I'm doing the first track during my streams until I get the guitar parts finished. I might also go back over and do the bass part as well. I do programmed drums, so probably will keep the drum track. And I can't sing for the life of me.
@SerpentsBane199518 күн бұрын
@@theubie This is very interesting. So you are recording the guitar and bass for a future proper release... I'm not necessarily against the computer-generated vocals, as many bands & projects in Japan use "vocaloid" programs like Hatsune Miku in lieu of organic vocals, but there is always someone behind the wheel, as with you controlling the takes. Real singers are always better, but not always in the budget I'm sure! Would it be possible to get a guitar play-through video of this song at some point? I like the song and would like to try learning it!
@theubie18 күн бұрын
@@SerpentsBane1995 Yeah, when I get around to re-recording the guitar parts, I'll see if I can do a full play through.

Wow finally someone makes this clear... I have been searching all day for a source of truth on how this process works in terms of encoding and decoding. So the processes are essentially the same except that the Masked Only option basically applies a crop and scale, and then reverses that crop and scale when it's finished. Whole Picture: Benefit of Context (because it can encode the entire image) Masked Only: Benefit of Detail (because it aligns the scale with what these models expect)

@theubie23 күн бұрын
I appreciate that. Yes, it's not easy, but you grow when you do. The truth is when you're as small of a creator as I am, you're more likely to just be ignore and given no thought rather than being disliked. It's something to remember when creating.
@creatingwithlove23 күн бұрын
@@theubie Being ignored is its own form of criticism and just as hard to take, I think, as being actively disliked.

@@creatingwithlove I could see some feeling that way, but being ignored is more of ignorance on their part rather than a failure on my part to entertain, in my mind.
