I prefer to run him with a PCS, myself. 10 man meat wall to get through before damaging him and they can re-roll charges. Grimaldus is just as cool on the tabletop! Put that guy in a unit of sword bros and they’re almost unstoppable. Glad you liked the video!

I would play the fuck outta that. There’s a 40K mod for Arma that has knights in it, but Arma is complex enough as it is, I’d rather not add 40K on top of it. Gameplay looks cool as hell tho

@star.hammer there's two main ways for a Knight game to go. Firstly, is the safer option of a strategy game. Something along the lines of the 2018 Battletech video game or more simply put a video game version of Adeptus Titanicus but with Knights. Secondly, as a much more risky and co.plex approach it could be something like the Mechwarrior games. Of course, this would be significantly harder to do since you'd need to tackle how to integrate both ranged and melee combat as well as finding a satisfying way to implement Ion shields.

@ gimme a mech warrior style Knight game any day. Don’t get me wrong, I love strategy (big stellaris and crusader kings fan) but in this case, I think I want something a little more visceral

@star.hammer one hundred percent. If it such a project was ever announced, I'd squeal like a little girl. But my big worry is simply if any company frankly would bother to properly depict the Knights. The melee system, for example, wouldn't need to be insanely in depth, but it should be complex enough so that two Paladins using Reaper Chainswords should feel like they're having an actual sword fight instead of a slap fight. Similarly, I frankly have no idea how you could properly depict the Ion shields. Since the Knights canonically move them to cover different parts of their armor in order to block whatever is the biggest threat to them at a given moment.

Might be an unpopular opinion but here goes: I grew up playing the mechwarrior games, loved them, but when gaming became more intense and faster they didn’t really satiate my needs of faster paced games I had been getting into. I had played armored core on the PS2 and tried AC6 around the time I got into the beta access for MECHA break. If they combined the two (even tho people say it’s a rip off of gundam games and ac6 which I have to disagree. Had hands on experience with no troubles and was just getting into the area of game with apex style box loot getting components in different tiers to mix and match to make a build and also the paints are in the thousands along with other neat things) I feel that if they used MB as a template along with the way space marine 2 has their perk tree for your class and weapons, and took out the anime style feel and change the game modes and made them longer it could be done! And not just with knights/dreadnoughts/etc, but even having bigger battlefields for even titans and other faction equivalent and if they added a campaign with PVE ops and a variety of attrition/point holding strategic PvP,I feel that would be the hot ticket right there

That’s valid, but it’s also important to remember that if everything on the tabletop or in visual media like this was totally lore accurate, it wouldn’t be very fun for anyone. Idk about you, but I much prefer being able to see what’s going on and all that

@@star.hammer I understand that 100% (just as how we can't have lore accurate kratos because the games would end in about 5 minutes) I just wanted to see more from a custodes to distinguish them from space marines even for someone completely new to 40k. A level of brutal efficiency that might even give the audience themselves a tiny bit of transhuman dread. Overall if this was just one example of us finally seeing a custodes in combat it would be fine. But as the only animated proper fight from a custodes.... eh

@ I think one of the biggest issues is that these episodes are like 20 minutes long at most. Which, I think they do fine for that period of time, but to properly depict marines or custodes in combat and the dynamics that come across from them, it would require a lot more time

Because the knowledge to do so is basically lost, as the Emperor was the one who created it all, and now that he's on the Throne, they can't ask him how he did it. Any remaining record is either lost or fiercely guarded by the Mechanicum. There's also the fact that many would consider it heresy to modify the gene-seed or anything like that, but exceptions were made for the Primaris Project out of desperation (which was still seen as heretical by some), and gene-seeds just decay over time. The focus in 40k is on preserving what's already there, not making more, because innovation is usually seen as dangerous.
