So this is 1996; all thrash metal bands are sucking ass because Metallica released "Black Album" and Megadeth did "Countdown..." so all thrash bands tried to copy their receipe and tone down the thrash in favor of radio-friendly songs; also, grunge killed nearly all interest in thrash at this point... ...and here comes Anvil - a band that up to this point played rather traditional heavy metal, very melodic and not really that pugnacious... and they record an ass-kicking thrash metal LP! Just think of it: the store shelves are full of Metallica's "Load" CDs, Megadeth is recording "Cryptic Writings", and between these lame crap lies "Plugged in Permanent"! :D Geez, these guys had balls!

Lived the 80s metal days as a teenager, 10 minute walking distance to L’Amour Brooklyn, saw all the greats, Exciter, Slayer, Venom, Mercyful Fate, Motörhead, Iron Maiden (w Paul DiAnno), Carnivore (Type O Negative predecessor), WASP, SOD, Exodus, Metallica (when they were real metal, “Kill ‘em All” days), Metal Church (hung out with them after the show, outside smoking butts, really cool dudes). Would have loved to see Holocaust for “The Nightcomers”tour, did not have the chance.
