I'm pretty sure that there was a HD version of this game ported to the PC... or widescreen or something like that.

For some reason, this is the first game my mom ever got me for NES, i didn't own mario duck/hunt, so this was the game that 6yo me cut my teeth on. I never beat it lol.

It's worth noting that this is in the Dragon Slayer series (hence Faxanadu: Famicom Xanadu).

the thing that makes me the most sick about this is the fact that it's incomprehensible twixt humans & often artificial-fake-imtelimgnence-fings whether can form a coherent, oh, i meant the number of takes to do a literally three second bit of this why do you have to clip that, and the fact that many people still wouldn't have this video done if it took that many takes to get three seconds of audio, good on you.

7:20:17 David Cronenberg? HP Lovecraft? I think "Rob Bottin", "Rick Baker" or "Chris Walas" would be better examples, but yeah, I know, who the hell knows who Rob Botting, Rick Baker or Chris Walas even are, right..?

People already mentioned that Beast and Wolverine are best for getting through the lava section, but Psylocke’s slide works reasonably well to get under the downward-closing gates and her psychic knife will take out the couple that close upward. You can also get through with Gambit’s flip kick (just repeat it, don’t walk at all) if you feel the need. I actually found Cyclops the worst one to use for the lava!

My first NES game, didn't fully appreciate it until several years later. Great underrated gem on the system.

I remember this game being on the shelf at the video store but I never played it. Wish I had now. It looks like something I’d really enjoy

Lol, that's some nostalgia nuke right here. I remember seeing Faxanadu in a shop once, sitting between other NES-games, and giggling about the funny name. Sadly, our parents did not have enough money for gaming consoles, and we skipped the NES entirely. But I still remember seeing Faxanadu's box sitting on that shelf and wondering what kind of game would have this kind of weird name.

There is a brilliant patch fixing bugs, translations and censorship. I think it is mandatory. The Skylia Prophecy (game, google it) is based on this game :)

I remember renting this as a kid. As usual I sucked at it and my brother got hard into it. I played it recently and realised how good it actually was. I'm glad you're covering the 8-bit games now, there's so many to chose from.

Fun fact....this game and Goonies 2 helped to define the sidescrolling action adventure genre that we* all loving refer to as FaxanaGoons *I may be the only person that calls them FaxanaGoons

I have never heard of this game until this video. Saw shirts for it, always thought it was another power metal band or something so I never bothered to check it out. Now I'm sitting here with my NES emulator opened up and having a blast with this game, and I'm only 7 minutes into it.

As a small kid I always borrowed this game along with other NES titles from my moms coworker's son. He was much older. He ended up passing away and he left me those games. To this day I keep them in pristine condition.

To think this originally was supposed to be an NES port of the original Xanadu. Turned out completely different. I want to play this sometime. Currently on a retro kick so I might get to it relatively soon.

Faxanadu was in my collection next to Guardian Legend & Crystalis as "lesser known games" that you rarely could get other kids to get interested in or talk about back in the day, cuz it wasn't Metroid or Super Mario or Zelda or another more popular (and therefore "better") game

Two quick pro tips: 1. Dying makes you revive with an amount of gold determined by your level. If you're tired of gold farming, try dying and coming back. It can make you start with more money and it's much faster. 2. DO NOT PICK UP THE PENDANT! The pendant is supposed to increase your attack power, but due to a bug, it actually decreases it. There are patches and game genie codes to fix this bug if you want to go that route.

Back when I was a lad in the 90s I was shocked that this game had a bad ending where your crew dies, it was pretty depressing for a Snes Drunk Game!
