Hello, I tried to gather what I could from the provided video, and also from following comments below, but I was hoping to get a little more information if that is possible. You two flew from the states to Japan (HND) airport, but Japan was just a temporary stop, because your final destination was South Korea. My questions are as followed. 1. Did you end up returning back to Japan and fly back home to the states from Japan, or did you fly back home to the states out of South Korea? 2. Did you have to go through immigrations and customs once you landed in Japan, and once that was finished, literally just turn around (never leaving the airport of course) and start checking in for your flight to South Korea, having to go through security and basically do the whole boarding flight process again, OR once your flight arrived in Japan, did you just get off the flight from Chicago and avoid the immigration/customs all together? Thank you for your time
@GraceYoonn

Coming back from Korea we made a stop from Japan. Once we landed in Japan we did not have to go through customs. Before leaving the states, I highly recommend to ask if you can check-in on both flights. Some flights you can if it’s within a certain time frame from the first flight to the next. See what the staff say when you ask that question during check-in. They’ll usually tell you if you’re able to check-in for both connecting flights, or you’ll have to check-in again in Japan. Once getting off the flight we asked where we would need to go for our flight to Korea and asked help with the whole process. We were taken through a security line and that was basically all we had to do to get into the correct terminal.

Another packing tip, if you are traveling with more than 1 person cross pack. Pack some of your stuff in their bag and some stuff in your bag. That way if 1 bag gets lost and the other doesn’t you or your travel partner still have some backup stuff.

Going to Chicago in December ! What do you recommend for me to take regarding clothing 😬 I’m from Tx and don’t know how the weather is.
@GraceYoonn
@GraceYoonn Жыл бұрын
I would definitely bring a variety of clothing 😅 some days it could warm and some days it could be really cold. I would bring a warm winter jacket, scarf, and sweaters, but also light clothing you can wear just in case. I feel like our winters are usually really cold, but we also have random warm days too.

Do you need a negative test for a layover on japan?
@GraceYoonn
@GraceYoonn 2 жыл бұрын
They recently changed it. Going there we did need a negative test for our layover in Japan. Coming back from Korea we did the same thing, and we did not need a covid test. Make sure to do your own research before flying!

If you are having an overnight layover or switching to Narita airport you do. I have a 7 hour layover and flights leaves at 12:30 am on last flight of night. If you have a long layover like this girl did then yes

Did they allow you to leave to get your bags? I am flying tomorrow and am worried the same thing will happen to me.
@GraceYoonn
@GraceYoonn 2 жыл бұрын
We made sure that we DID NOT leave the airport or for customs because once you do that’s when visas are required. Thankfully there were many airport agents standing by guiding people to the right direction. First, when you check-in ask if you qualify for interline baggage. This works for airlines that are partner airlines. United Airlines is under star alliance, so any airlines within star alliance will be able to easily “interline baggage” your bags. BUT your layover must be within 12 hours, if it is not you will need to figure it out at the next connecting airport. Say your layover is not within the 12 hours then you will need to talk to your airline once you land at your connecting airport. Clarify that you have a layover at the airport and you need to make sure your bags are going on the next flight with you. We had amazing people help figure things out for us. We went through security again at Haneda airport and once we were cleared we went straight to our next airline to ask for help with our bags. They were able to find our bags and make sure that they made it to the next flight. Make sure you receive a baggage tag or confirmation that your bag was ready for the next flight. Our baggage tag stayed the same, which was very convenient.
