Video was great until you threw your cigar in the water! Show some respect for the area and those that will come after you.

I was gonna ask if they registered at camp site 34. Pisses me off when I register a certain site and then someone is already there. Then we have to go back to the ranger station and reregister at another site. Frustrating!

Isn't the lake first come first served?

Beautiful video. I cut my backpacking teeth in the Black River Wild Forest many years ago, but I never did make it to Sand Lake Falls. Now it feels like I have! And there was bushwhacking! Thanks for taking me along.

Thank you friend! This was mine and my friend's first real backpacking trip. It turns out that while woodhull has established trails, and sand lake falls has established trails, the connecting trails between are a rats nest of old logging roads and dead ends, haha.

4am. Time to get broadsided.

I think it's a nice gesture. It's just a bit strange that they would choose a site that is so far of a drive in.

That site on Fifth Lake is a handicapped access site: "The campsite on Fifth Lake has accessible features for people with disabilities. While the site is available to people who do not have a need for accessible features, they are encouraged to use other waterfront campsites so this site can be available for those who do need accessible features." dec.ny.gov/places/essex-chain-lakes-complex#:~:text=Eastern%20Bluebird-,Accessible%20Recreation,at%20Fifth%20Lake%20(PDF).

Right- I noticed that after the trip looking at the map and site description a little harder. Makes sense seeing as how that is a particularly picked up and open campsite. I hope it gets use- it's a nice spot.
@camper55207 ай бұрын
You do Know you have to sign in at the Ranger Station and claim your spot before you head out. It would be a Bummer to paddle out and set up camp just to be told to leave.
@Xerkies5 ай бұрын
That's good to know since I'll be going there. I'll go over there for questions.
@broadsidebarnes5 ай бұрын
Just FYI- all primitive sites are first come first served. A ranger is never going to tell you to move your camp bc someone else "reserved" it. It's written plainly all over the DEC website. Signing in is a good thing to do, but no one is going to spank you for not. Also- people often have plans change and change sites. Don't sweat it.

Nice video. We subbed ya. There were ospreys in that nest when we were there and you need special access to get through that gate like handicap or something. Troll lake clear wabblers to get the trout and salmon there. Hit me up next time you go there and I’ll give you some tips on fishing that place. Or check out our videos there. We did our trout opener and closer there last season. Actually our second spring trout trip was there.

Thank you! Yea my buddy and are fishing novices for sure- for us its something to do while we think about what else we wanna do haha. Usually i'm up for bringing a little more fishing gear, but being our first time to this chain, i didn't want to bring the kitchen sink for the portages. And I realized after the trip while looking more closely at the maps that site 5 there was a handicap access site so that made more sense. But like we say, you gotta want it so it's still fun to not have an easy-out haha.

@@broadsidebarnes throw a rod holder on your boat and just troll a wabbler and worm while you travel slowly. I can narrow down certain spots to target there for you though when you go back. Also that place is perfect for a canoe wheel cart. That lets you bring more stuff. I double carry to the top of the incline then wheel it the rest of the way.

That lake is scary when it gets like that! Made for a long paddle. I have some vids on Stillwater too! Thanks for sharing. Good stuff.

…also you said 34, but isn’t that site 14? Closed for bears last time I was there.
@broadsidebarnes9 ай бұрын
Nope it was def 34. It's an island site about a mile-ish from the launch
@mikecieply6 ай бұрын
Ha! Paul it is funny you said that... I thought it was site 14 also, I remember camping there and then it was closed for bears, but thank you broadside barnes for the video. it looks like a twin site of 14. Now I want to check out site 34. PauliG and I had a rough trip back one time in a 14 foot motor boat. You guys are great in the canoe ! Please keep sharing your vids.

Nice video. Thanks for posting. I've been thinking about a trip on Stillwater so this was right up my alley. Seems like it's always windy - what time were you paddling going in and out? Did you get over to the other shore at all? How about power boats; did you see many? Thanks again.
@broadsidebarnes Жыл бұрын
only saw maybe one or two party barges coming back in from the eastern edge. We hit the water this time at about 8 or so, and got back to the launch around 9 or 10 too. We ended up hugging the south shore and we eventually stopped at site 34 on the island bc it was just too brutal continuing into the wind. I have another video from two years prior though, where we went up the north shore and ended up weedling back into site 15. That was in September and the lake was glass from like 7AM to noon or so. My buddy and I kept wondering if there was ever a rhyme or reason to the wind there, but now we know to just account for it no matter what if we go here. Thanks dude! Much appreciated.

Next iteration: modular! Sub trays that snap in and out. Add a modular rail made for the separate thicknesses of the various places you'd want to snap it into. Very cool. Put the stls on thing verse or similar.
