I agree with FabryLON. This is really neat. Going to listen at work later, but I love the intro and seeing you peruse the collection as you get each version and look through them. Nice touch. I don’t know why, but my memory of a lot of my earlier gaming experiences isn’t that great either. I’m with you.

Very cool video, Steve! I'm also planning to replay Code Veronica sooner rather than later, and I can't wait! It's definitely a good one! That's true: Code Veronica was originally supposed to be the third main game in the series, while Nemesis was a spin-off for the playstation fanbase. At the same time, another major title was in development for the upcoming pstwo. Then, things changed: capcom saw how poorly the dreamcast was doing, so they decided to promote Nemesis as the third game, while Code Veronica became the spin-off. Also, the pstwo game was becoming Devil May Cry, which was not exactly how RE was supposed to be...

This is the only way they could sell the pro at that price point. Let's say you had no interest, but then you see this cool, unique version, and now you want to go for it. They've converted you into a buyer. Now, if you missed out, you are more likely to just jump on the normal one because "eh, it's cheaper, and I would have bought the 30th one." It's also just guaranteed sales and gets more people in the door and converts them into buyers. If you don't make it limited enough, nobody will want it. Like it or not, people like having rare items. Many say it doesn't matter, and they aren't all about hype, but their favorite piece in their collection always ends up being some ultra rare, one of a kind piece. Lol. The money is going into sonys pockets. They know over printing leads to low sales. Look at trading card games, same balance.
@StevoSupremo
@StevoSupremo 28 күн бұрын
That's the thing. I wonder if they did convert any buyers. The pro is still available for pre order. I'm under the belief that if they would have done a system where anyone who wanted to preorder one would get one and in the end it would have lead to more sales. No over production, just the pre order production. That's how LRG operates these days and I remember watching an interview with the owner saying their sales increased enormously since changing to that system. It's interesting to think about how it could work with a larger company in a situation like this, but its something we unfortunately will never know unless they give it a try. Thanks for the reply!
@941asland
@941asland 28 күн бұрын
@StevoSupremo That is interesting about LRG, I hadn't heard that. I'd be curious to hear how their sales are now that they've been on that preorder system for a while. I've noticed alot of their releases are cheaper on ebay now. I bought one of the star wars preorders I missed brand new for way less than they retailed for a year after it sold out. I could see the sales increasing in the short term but dropping off once people realize they can buy them second hand sealed for less. It reminds me of how I see ubisoft games now. I still haven't bought that second mario game. It's probably great, but that first one dropped to 10 bucks. I'll wait. Lol
@BawesomeBurf
@BawesomeBurf 28 күн бұрын
The only reasons I can think of why they don't do made to order is because they can only manufacture items in specific quantities, and maybe the next tier of manufacturing would leave them with too many extras. That, and they are able to quickly and proudly proclaim that they are sold out.

To be honest I don’t like the term “holy grail”. I feel like it is way over used. That being said I plan on using it in my next thumbnail. A game I picked up is as close to something I consider a “grail” as it gets. If it’s something you really desire and is at least somewhat rare then who can judge?

I live in Portland and just got a nes, snes, and genesis from offerup. I was planning on going to this convention this year for the 1st time just to get some cheap common games. It sounds like I should just shop on ebay or physically go into brick and morter retro game stores instead. If I just wanted like the basic mario, castlevania, and tmnt regular nes games would I be paying double at the convention?
@StevoSupremo
@StevoSupremo Ай бұрын
Since you already live there it could be worth checking out if you have never been to one to see if you would enjoy it, but after paying for a ticket to get in and the games you want you would be better off going to a local shop. Since you live in a bigger city I would keep an eye out on Facebook and offer up still. Someone is bound to have the common nes stuff for cheaper on there. If you do go in the show, I recommend going to the booths that aren't store owners. The year I went people had single table set ups near the back that were just fellow collector's selling their stuff and they tend to have lower prices then the store booths.
@CosmicCosmo1
@CosmicCosmo1 28 күн бұрын
@StevoSupremo Just reporting back. I was able to pickup about 50 nes/genesis games for approximately 20% under ebay prices. It seemed like the key was waiting until after noon on Sunday. You were right about the collector booths they had better prices, better selection on commons, and willing to negotiate more so than the game stores that bought booths. Thank you for preparing me to tackle this convention with your video and advice.

Sony has always been greedy and anti consumer. People just forgot because of how badly microsoft screwed up with the xbox one. I remember the vita memory card outrage. It's the same old cycle. One company goes up, and the other goes down. It's crazy how bad people are at remembering these things. Sony just has good will to burn right now and they are using it to milk their customers. Microsoft would do the same if given the opportunity. It's just a balance of how much you can burn at once.

Couple thoughts: - I can relate so much to your struggle with picking up, putting down, picking up, and putting down again. AS WELL as returning to a game and continuing on after a bit of trial and error. I’m one of the few that would rather take a bit to re-acclimate to the game and continue on from my last save than to start the whole experience over again from the beginning. I’ve got a few JRPGs (and other RPGs in general) that I’ve temporarily shelved for the exact reasons you described, but I’ll get back to them eventually. One of them ironically enough is DQVIII: Journey of the Cursed King (3DS)! - Your video was so well done here, man. Seriously. Just as nostalgic and fun to go through in the beginning as any one of HCG’s videos and the way you talked through the game and your experience was just as articulate and enjoyable as what Dustin’s discussions were like. You don’t give yourself enough credit. Loved this video. And congrats on finally finishing this massive gem! I’m looking forward to someday tackling it as well and you can better believe it’ll likely take me several years at minimum to do the same. Haha!

We have tons of them here since I'm in a big city, but I typically just go to my indie mom and pop store OR online. Sometimes Walmart and Best Buy. I'm shocked the deal actually went through. I recall going back even six or seven years ago, or longer, a friend of mine who is huge into yard and estate sales mentioned people breaking out their phones and checking out ebay prices. Most people seem to set a low price, then hit people with the, "Oh, actually, someone offered me X" and they crank the price up. I think age makes a difference. Someone who knows their way around a smartphone is one thing, but a mawmaw or, even if someone's younger, a person letting go of a collection after a loved one passes? Man, that can't slide.
