I am very sorry for those players who battled such terrible physical misfortunes. Prayers for each of them and their families. But the Flyers get zero sympathy after they brawled their wayvto two Cups. A style of hockey that left hurt the image the game and the league so badly, it damn near lost a national TV contract in the late 1970s. A style of hockey which coined the phrase: 'Went to the fighs, and a hockey game broke out.' A style of hockey left such a bad stain on the game, it took the Winter Olympics of 2010 to finally remove it. 2010. So to that organization I say: Losing in the Finals so many damn times is Karma. Smell it.

Did you run out of historical footage? Around 0:30, we see goalie Ron Hextall holding the Conn Smythe trophy in his hands while the narration mentions that Reggie Leach won the Conn Smythe in 1976. To be fair, Ron Hextall did win the Conn Smythe in a losing cause in the 1986-87 Stanley Cup Finals against the Edmonton Oilers. Reggie Leach was a right winger by the way.

Flyers ran into 5 dynasties (70s Habs, 80s isles and oilers, 90s red wings, 2010s hawks) during the cup finals since they won the cup.

But wait theres so much more! Mainly the curse affects the GOALIES- How about young Vezina winning franchise goalie Pelle Lingbergh dying in a car crash, having your starting goalie getting hurt twice (Brian Boucher/Michael Leighton) during the 2010 run to the Stanley Cup Finals, trading away another not once but 2 time Vezina winner and future Stanley Cup champion in Sergei Bobrovsky, signing one of the better starting golies in the league in Ilya Bryzgalov to a massive long term contract only to have him be incredibly inconsistent and drastically underperform, Ivan Fedotov being forced to serve in the military of wartime Russia, and Alexei Kolosov wnot wanting to play for the team after getting culture shocked and homesick from not having anyone that speaks Russian around him. The we gave the skaters- How about losing your Hart trophy and Stanley Cup winning future Hall of Fame #1 defenseman Chris Pronger having his career ended early by a freak injury, trading away one of the best 2-way top line centers in the league at the time in Mike Richards and top line sniping winger Jeff Carter immediately after falling 2 wins shy of winning the Cup who shortly thereafter went on to win 2 Cups together as cornerstones of an incredibly dominant borderline dynasty L.A. Kings team, and just recently having a top 5 draft pick ghost you and demand a trade This is all just off the top of my head so i know for a fact theres much more. It's the epitome tragic what has befell my beloved franchise. I'm gonna do a deep dive and follow up post my findings!

Been watching hockey since the mid-90s and I'm a lifelong Flyers fan. I saw that game where Lindros' lung was punctured. I saw the Red Wings sweep them. I was upset when Bobbly Clarke coldly said in a press conference after naming Bill Barber head coach, "We didn't tell [Roger Nielsen] to get cancer." I watched Rod Brind'Amour and Justin Williams win the Cup... with Carolina. I watched Mike Richards and Jeff Carter with the Cup... with the Kings (also with Justin Williams). SOMEBODY finally agrees... the Flyers are cursed 😂

This was great, but did miss on a few major, gigantic things. Chief among them was: 1.) 2004 - Having a Cup contending team that literally ran out of healthy defensemen (they were so injured on defense that they resorted to utilizing 5'6" Sami Kapanen on D). They eventually lost to the eventual Cup Champion Tampa Bay Lightning. 2.) Pelle Lindbergh - They had a Star-level young goalie who got overconfident, arrogant and brash and crashed his exotic sports car driving under the influence, killing himself.

As someone who grew up in a Habs family in the '70s and then went on to become a Wings fan, I am grateful for the ill-fated Flyers and their badass Hallowe'en colours. Without worthy opponents like the Legion of Doom and the Broad Street Bullies, the victories of the Canadiens or the Red Wings would not be as hard-fought and there would be no glory. Thank you Flyers and the forces of darkness- we need you to give life meaning.

Great video. A few misses concerning the Flyers 'Cursed' legacy. 1. Vezina winning goalie Pelle Lindbergh tragically dying in a car crash as he was entering his prime. 2. Bernie Parent losing an eye. 3. Keith Primeau who was a natural leader and had grown into a dominant center for the Flyers (including scoring the famous 50T goal against the Penguins, turning the tide of that playoff) received a career-ending injury from a freak play with his head/eye.

The Canucks GM before Benning, Mike "if I haven't got something good to do, then why pretend to do anything good for the team" Gillis, WAS WORSE than Benning, who inhereted Gillis' team of almost nothing other than the aging twins. Seriously? Gillis... Ugh. THE WORST. The record is set straight. Cheers!

Two more stories I don’t know if this is mentioned but Eric Lindros nearly died by the Flyers incompetence. In 1999 during a game Lindros suffering a collapsed lung which went undiagnosed; the team wanted to get him taken back to Philly to he evaluated. Later after the game the Flyers current president of operations Keith Jones found Lindros passed out in the hotel room they shared. “ “Lindros was lying in a tub, pale and cold. In a call to the Flyers, the trainer was told to put Lindros on a plane that was returning to Philadelphia with another injured teammate.” Jones had to insist the Flyers take Lindros to a hospital in the city they were playing at; the team relented and did so; they found out Lindros had internal bleeding from the collapsed lung. caused by internal bleeding of his chest wall. The 1999 incidnet was also the start of the break in the Flyers relationship with Lindros. After the incident Lindros's father wrote the Flyers a letter in which he stated that if the trainer had followed team orders, Eric would be dead, a statement supported by the doctors who treated him in Nashville. Had the Flyers not relented to Jones request to get Lindros a doctor than as many experts have said it is almost certain Lindros would have passed before they reached Philly; even to this day Lindros credits Jones with saving his life. The story takes place in 2022 the Flyers also signed Russian goalie prospect Ivan Fedotov and that same day they signed him he was picked up and arrested by Russian authorities for draft dodging. Fedotov was taken to a recruitment center and he reported that he had been given an injection which sent him to the hospital; from the hospital he was forcefully taken and abducted by Russian authorities and forced to spend a year in a base in Siberia as punishment. Fedotov was robbed of two years of his NHL career but this story has a happy ending as Fedotov arrived in Philly and began playing games and will look to compete for the goalie job next season.

Eh, "Most cursed franchise in sports" = A very BIG clam for the Flyers, considering while the Flyers after 1975 has 3-4 finals appearence while to Maple Leafs have not won a Cup since 1967 OR even made the finals since then as well witch makes them havong the longest Cup drought in NHL history (!). The Sabres have a bigger claim as well since 1970, they have never won a single Cup, and there last finals appearence was in 1999, and been having since then so many terrible seasons. Heck, they have now missed-out on the play-offs for 13 STRAIGHT seasons...and not won a play-off round series since 2007 = 17 years. Then have NBA teams like Atlanta Hawks, Indiana Pacers, Washington Wizards, New York Knicks, Sacramento Kings or Chicago Bulls. NFL teams like: Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, Cleveland Browns etc-etc also have arguably bigger claims.

Lindros was the best player and toughest on the flyers. The so called role players didn't protect Eric when someone would take a run at him. If myself was picking the perfect team when every player was in their prime, Lindros would be on the team no doubt. If he stayed healthy he would have been the best power forward in NHL history.
