I'm really glad you made this video. This is the first time I've heard Brooklyn's tuned low. They look and sound awesome. I am super close to having the money saved to order mine. I can't wait.

Delicious sounding toms and kick! Digging that vintage vibe that the Brooklyns deliver in spades. If you are looking at Gretsch Brooklyns or Ludwig Classic Maples you are clearly not interested in modern Japan made percussion which sound just fine but lack a bit of soul. The same can be said for DW, Craviotto or other elite kits that are high on snob appeal but lack the street cred or rock n roll merit badges. This appears to be a swiss army kit with a liberal dose of Joe Cool factor...

Those kits have their place! I love a good DW Collectors Series or a Yamaha Custom. But for me, what I would take over those any day are a Gretsch or a vintage Ludwig. That is what my soul loves haha.

Thank you for this video. I am getting ready to pull the trigger on my new kit. It is between the Brooklyn and the performance series. I work with 3 different acts and play from old world country to to Zeppelin and Deep purple. So...need that kit with the serious sound and quality.

Thanks man! And getting to open your first US made Gretsch kit is a memorable experience. When you get it set up, dialed in, and play it, you wont want to play another kit again! Congrats on ordering the new kit! The guys at the Drum Center are great people and super knowledgeable. Good place to purchase! I should have bought the original kit from them and not from Chicago.. haha

Nice kit, bro. If it were my kit I would choose darker sounding cymbals to compliment the sonic range of these shells. The brand doesn’t matter as much as the alloys used to create them or the tone they create. Knowing what options are out there will allow to be your own engineer of sorts. Cheers, mate!

Im currently using K Customs on it! The A Customs I have in this video I typically use live or if I need a brighter sounding cymbal for a recording.

What kind of dampening did you do on the kick?
@drummerphreak15
@drummerphreak15 3 жыл бұрын
I use one small pillow laid between the front and back head, but not touching either head. If you want more dampening, you can position the pillow to lightly touch the back head (batter side) but too much contact can eliminate too much resonance and kill the tone. Always make sure your resonant side head is not in contact with the pillow. Thats how I do it at least!

I wasn't crazy about the snare sound either. This was with the heads straight out of the box. I don't think the heads that came with it really let the drum sing enough. I put some new Remo's on it since, with the Vintage Emperor on top, and it really has a nice sound now.

Was there any extra charge for getting a Brooklyn kit with a USA custom finish?
@drummerphreak15
@drummerphreak15 5 жыл бұрын
For me there wasn't, but the original kit I bought was already built with this finish, so when it got damaged in shipping they just made another one at no extra charge. I don't know if there would be an extra charge to order it that way, or if you could even order it with this color at all anymore. You would have to call Gretsch or talk to a Gretsch dealer.

Great kit and it's clear that you love them from the smile on your face as you play them. Just bought a Brooklyn myself after about a year of research considering everything on the market. Only the Brooklyn gave me some of the modern sound that the Japanese companies do so well, combined with the history and nostalgia that the traditional companies offer. Great to see you enjoying yours!
