This has to be a listed building surely???? Are they developing it into flats????? I was treated in the hospital twice in the 80's, once when I was on P company back in 1985 when I went through a car wind screen when my mate lost control of the car and we hit a tree on the way to Gibraltar barracks to do our washing. Then again when I got knocked out in a bar fight in the legendary "Rat Pit" when some 2 Para lads decided to kick off. I was rescued and put in a cab to the military hospital by no other than the legendary "Kev Waterhouse" from the Pathfinders who unfortunately is no longer with us. RIP Kev, he was a top bloke

Shame to see the place falling to bits. After it closed as a colliery in 1976, it was a great mining museum. I went on one of the tours down the 700ft pit when I was a kid, down in one of the cages with the brickwork rushing by and our ears popping, wearing a helmet with a light and carrying a self-rescuer. Amazing to think you could do that. One of the older mine shafts there was 2000ft deep.

When the old Stafford District General was under partial closure in 1984, my grandad was in there recovering from a serious operation. One evening we went to visit him, and my best mate tagged along. While my mum and gran were in the ward, me and my mate decided to explore. We went up to the next floor - it was in almost total darkness. We went part way along the corridor before deciding that it was a bit too creepy. 😂

North Staffordshire Royal Infirmary was a very good hospital. I know the place was old but it was a shame they knocked it down, it had so much history and some great architecture inside and out. Im sure it was haunted aswell by former staff and patients, so sad to see it gone. I wish i could have had one last walk around that place before they knocked it down. I had some nice and very sad memories about that hospital, i will never forget it :(

Coming from a mining and quarrying family and having spent 45 years in transport and engineering I would advise anyone to be extremely careful in and nesr these redundant industrial sites. There are many hidden dangers. I followed in the footsteps of most of my relatives in South Wales , North staffordshire and Lancashire and Yorkshire in what are commonly seen as hazardous industries and occupations. I was lucky. I made it to retirement. Others were not so lucky!
