I have literally never heard of this. I've seen an issue with burgman's ground clearance and the centre stand scraping the road at moderate lean angles, therefore the downside of using a car tyre is less of an issue because its not a bike you can lean anyway.

What tire are you running on the rear?
@psalm2forliberty577
@psalm2forliberty577 2 ай бұрын
@@josepaguilar3432 It's a difficult to find size in the USA (it's Euro / UK) Michelin Compact Radial 175/70 R 13. There's a common USA size but I'm not 100% certain of it. It may be a 165/75 R 13. If you look at my entire video or the pinned comment I do say the tire size - I checked & it does fit the early Burgman 400 (2006 & prior). Unfortunately my Scooter was totaled by a deer hit just before I was going to mount that new more common USA Tire size, so I never actually did it. I now have a larger cousin bike a 2008 Suzuki V-Strom 650, with 17" rear & 19" front tires. And yes it's Darksided too with the rear 150/70 R 17 MC giving way to a Petlas 205/55 VR 17 car tire. It's a fabulous upgrade, in ride & handling just as on the Burgman.

Did you find any difference leaning L. vs. R. with the tire being assymetrical? I suspect a downside to "darksiding" may be shorter 'V' belt change intervals and a slight decrease in fuel economy due to increased friction resulting from the larger contact patch.
@psalm2forliberty577
@psalm2forliberty577 2 ай бұрын
@@1966johnnywayne No to be honest with you I didn't notice any difference once the tire was fully broken in, I couldn't tell leaning left or right. And I'm not sure on shortening the belt life it would be difficult to speak to that. Sadly this 400 Burgman was destroyed in a deer wreck about 6 months after filming this video. However I have bought a second motorcycle a larger Suzuki dl650 V-Strom which has a chain drive and I've also just dark-sided it with a Petlas brand 205 / 55 vr17 automotive tire. Absolutely fabulous performance with it, just like on the Burgman Scooter yes you have slightly different handling but it's nothing you can't get used to quite easy in fact, the exciting thing is incredible reliability because the tire is stronger less likely to get a puncture and last four to six times longer what's better traction because your contact patch is not a couple inches like a motorcycle tire but more like five and a half inches. I just don't see the downside people who are in the dark sighting criticize it without ever having tried it. It's just their perception they're going on you can tell the motorcycle tire manufacturers are loving it because you end up throwing out a tire every 6 or 7,000 me when there's just no need to do so. The only person I think should stick with a motorcycle tire and not dark side would be somebody who rides maybe a hundred mile ride every other weekend so they're only going to put 2,500 mi a year on the motorcycle anyway motorcycle tire so who really cares ? But I'm a daily commuter as much as possible I live in Texas where the weather is pretty nice and I can ride about 300 days a year so for me I'm going to ride 20 to 25,000 miles a year and I despise having to change tires every 3 months. People with large motorcycles like fully loaded touring gold wings and harleys, where they make the bike heavier than the motorcycle tire can handle plus they wear them out super fast due to the weight those people benefit greatly from darksiding and many of them have done so. Best wishes for success let me know if you go that way take care and God bless

Until you try it you're purely guessing. It's fully as good as an M/C tire, loses NOTHING in real world riding but adds lots of virtues m/c tires lack: stability, massive increase in load capacity, higher speed rating, radials ride better than Bias Ply tires. At am average of 1/2 to 1/3 the cost too. I now have a new ride: a larger more powerful Suzuki Vstrom 650. The PO installed nice expensive Pirrelli Angel m/c tire right before selling it. It burned through in 7,500 miles. I just Darksided it with a 205/55r17 - my goodness what an improvement ! As I said "until YOU try it you'll never know" as of now all you have is an uninformed opinion.
@psalm2forliberty577
@psalm2forliberty577 6 ай бұрын
The only exception I see is if you ride very few annual miles and are virtually always going at extreme speeds on windy roads. As a moto GP racer would. In that case stick with the m/c tire as it's optimized for it. In the REAL WORLD you nor I are riding but mainly on a straight lane with minor turns here & there. As all the guys who've stuck a go pro camera on the bottom of their Darksided bike & then hit the twistys PROVE, scraping their pegs in each turn, these inexpensive durable car tires hang on & grip perfectly and don't let go. You gain MANY practical advantages & lose none that matter for 95% of daily riders.

Good idea specially in countries that have no much choice of motorcycle tires like Egypt which i live in. I have AN400 2001 and i love this machine next time i probably get. a car tire. My inly concern how does it do in corners? As the motorcycle tires are designed to get the most contact area while leaning!
@psalm2forliberty577
@psalm2forliberty577 Жыл бұрын
Believe it or not, absolutely FINE in corners. I didn't notice any less cornering ability. I could still lay it over far enough to scrape the pegs. There's guys on KZbin who've mounted GoPro cameras to the underside of their Gold wing or Harley large touring bikes & show exactly how their Dark side tire does in corners. The best thing by far is, super durable lifespan like 3-5x longer + more weight capacity so your bikes ride actually IMPROVES. I like this idea so much that my new bike a Suzuki V-Strom 650, model year 2008, will get a Dark side rear tire as soon as the existing M/C tire is worn out.

Yes my poor late AN400 was destroyed when a deer ran into my path at 50 mph. Praise God I had on helmet, gloves & sturdy shoes. ER doc saw large scar on Helmet & said: "you'd be dead without it !" But yeah the Burgman 400 is missed & I did chance to buy a Suzuki Vstrom 650 a month before the total wreck of the Burgman. The new (used '08, but perfect condition) Vstrom will be going "Darksided" as soon as I burn thru the brand new m/c tire it came with. That's how much I enjoyed the car tire on my Maxi Scooter, I'm now 100 % sold on the idea.

UPDATE: I've now Darksided my "new" motorcycle also a Suzuki, a Vstrom 650 - an ADV Motorcycle with 17" rear & 19" front wheel. It's been a month and BOY am I thrilled it works FABULOUS. I installed a p205/55r17 Petlas P741 "Z" rated tire. It does take several long high speed rides to "wear in / break in" the tire - the rubber cures & toughens up. So it'll feel "squirmy" first 100 miles - that's the time to chill out in the turns. Now at 1,200 miles I'm carving as well as with the prior m/c tire.

I didn't get a long test, but it didn't "seem" to reduce consumption as much as I'd wished. I figured that a CVT mod / upgrade using the Sliders from Taiwan (name escapes me now) to lower the revs at highway speeds was a very good way to minimize oil consumption. What year is yours ? The later Burgman 400s seemed to have solved the issue, next gen past 2008. Mine was destroyed in a Deer collision late July this summer, prob 1000 miles after my modification, so not a long term impression, sorry. I'm now on a larger "cousin" bike a Suzuki V-Strom 650 - which has many Pros vs the Burgman, but a Con or two as well. Lol - it's a world 🌎 of trade offs right ? Hope that's some help ! PS Dark side Tire on rear, if you can do it, is of great advantage. I did a separate video on it. Can't wait to do my V-Strom, soon as the rear M/C tire burns thru ! Merry Christmas 🎄 & ride safe. oh man, I'm so sorry to hear about your accident. Well the important thing is that you are safe and healthy. I will try to make that modification as soon as I have time, I have never stopped to measure how much oil it consumes, but the truth is that it is a pain to be constantly attentive to this issue. In my case the bike is from 2004, but they work very well and I don't want to get rid of it. Even so, it is not easy to sell a motorcycle that consumes oil, people explain it to them and they do not want to understand it hahaha. The thing about the rear wheel impressed me, is it illegal in my country, what is the advantage of having a wheel like that? The bike turns well with it. Well friend, thank you very much for your response and I am glad to know that you are okay after the accident. All the best! @@psalm2forliberty577

Right on man. Save that $$$. If you have any Dodge Chrysler vehicles in Oz, you sure should find ATF+4. It was developed in the "DamlierChrysler" period - when the formerly 2 separate companies merged - kind of - and shared some things, but not others. The Wikipedia article on the 722.6 aka Mercedes speak and 5Gtronic aka Dodge speak lists all the Mercedes , Dodge, (+Jaguar, a Porsche & Ssoyang) models sharing this one & the same tranny. So obviously the same lube applies. But MB didn't want owners to pop in at the Dodge dealer for "discount service", hence the need to read the Lubricant Spec sheet to see their identical properties. Cheers mate ! David in Texas

I'm sure by now you figured it out about the belt being loose. Mitch Bergsma has great KZbin videos on this procedure. He squeezes belt after rotating counterclockwise than tightens front nut by hand and keeps doing that over and over. Rotating, squeezing belt and tightening nut by hand. Then after you can't tighten nut any more by hand, than put final torque on nut.

She was the most beautiful and spiritual girl in the group have no idea how I landed her it was a miracle. I believe I heard you say to George that you were homeschooling your seven children I think which is amazing. She did great with our five. I'm here to say it was a real challenge the daily work of Grace that took 110% of everything she had and everything I had. To some degree it's probably fair to say that he effort wore her out. But isn't that what the Christian life is all about is giving our all for Jesus and the kingdom of God to spend our lives in his cause ! In our tradition wed say for Christs Crown and Covenant. Do you have a website that may have a link to send you an email ? Or end an email to [email protected] Put your name in the subject line and then I could respond and be a little more specific could send you a link to her information I hate the word obituary it sounds so clinical institutional and non-personal It's more of like the legacy story of her life. I'm quite sure it would inspire you many have read the testimonials there from other people and said the same that it encouraged and uplifted them. Truly the battle that we face is multifaceted and daunting. She did pursue self-treatment because she was a certified natural herbalist yet a cure was not to be found despite much effort. I do have a few clues in the rearview mirror that I put together on why perhaps her Cancer persisted and what was behind but maybe that's better shared in the email. So glad that you were interviewed on George's show. I'm blessed to see George turning from the playboy lifestyle to a God honoring pursuit and having quality guests like yourself on who can uplift the discussion and inspire others - that's just what's needed ! There's too many negative voices in the manosphere space that denigrate the institution of marriage & too few that lift up a healthy Biblical view of it. I think as Believers we want to see redemption invade every corner of the Universe: Speaking of Christs work to win back this fallen 🌎 world: I love the verse we sing at Christmas, in Joy to the World: "He comes to make his blessings flow, far as the curse is found !" Clean the mud using brush and dish soap. You want to get rid of all mud, and grease between retaining clips and fuel filter tips. Spray a little bit of PB'laster 16-SL Industrial Strength Silicone Lubricant - 11-Ounces on all connectors to make sure they are lubricated. You should be able to press the clips and release them from grabbing the fuel filter tips. You can use pick tool to slightly press then push out. Took me 2hr to get these remove. Main fuel line is very stiff and not much room to push from front to back. You can disconnect the main fuel line from engine and cover with rubber glove, rubber band to minimize fuel spilling all over your engine bay. unclip the black plastic fuel and break line holders from under body to give you a little more slack. Main fuel line replacement is not too difficult if you accidentally break it. You can swap it without lifting the body but easier if you remove the bolts and hockey pucks.

Yes I do. But it's a UK size, ok if you're there. But a better size for USA is 155/65-13 which also fits & is available thru Amazon or special order.

Any update on the tire? Did it rub?
@psalm2forliberty577
@psalm2forliberty577 Жыл бұрын
No rubbing, this size is pretty small diameter, a 145/60 R13 65T Michelin Compact. I'm at almost 10,000 miles and some tread - about 1mm remains. I'm about to change it out to slightly larger size. New size is: Petlas brand (Turkey) 155/65 R13 (73T) So that's 10mm wider & 65 profile, up from 60, on earlier tire. Fit WILL be tight on any 2006 & earlier Burgman 400. I'm tape measuring it shows about 4 or 5mm clearance from tire face to engine / cvt case. The reason for the swap up in size is several-fold: 1 - Easier to source the 155/65 R13 in the USA via Amazon 2 - The earlier 145/60 R13 is an "Euro Market" tire, not sold in USA. (I just got lucky earlier found it on eBay) 3 - This tire is taller by about 1" which will somewhat lower HWY RPMs, always a good thing. Plus the slightly wider face & higher load rating (65T Vs 73T) should be a plus. My earlier Shinkyo rear MC tire lasted just 3,600 miles, embarrassing. This small 145/60 R13 "car tire" is lasting 3x as long and highway confidence is greater, too. I can drag the sides in any turn & so she carves just fine.

Hey mate do you know what size and type of screw fitting these are ? I am wanting to adapt from the Mercedes fitting to a standard an fitting to attach a standalone trans cooler. Thanks 👍

I can't recall precisely from memory. If I knew, I'll say in the video, so watch & see. If not, either Google something like Mercedes w210 trans cooler line fitting sizes / hose replacement Or visit the www.benzworld.org site, > w210 forum > join > ask the techs. There is also a site that sells aftermarket Euro / MB hoses that are metric & they had a listing of chart that gave that info. A search should find them. In principle just remember that 8mm = 5/16" so think maybe about skipping threaded adapters & go for plumbing hose Barb adapters instead. They're more DIY friendly - the main point of my video lol. And yes these tranny cooler lines are holding perfectly many miles later. I drive the w210 daily & w163 occasionally.

Thanks for all your work and knowledge. I sub to your channel and will be following your vids on Mercedes W210 wagon because mine also needs some new hoses and gaskets. Should we occasionally spray our rubber hoses down with a rubber conditioner or a product like 303 Aerospace protectant and maybe paint brake lines and such with Rust protection or a Rust Neutralizer ?

You're quite welcome my pleasure. I try to put up a YT video for any procedure I do that I feel there aren't truly good ones yet offered. This one on fabbing new Tranny hoses plus I did 4 part one on R & R Tandem power steering / self leveling rear suspension pump. But yes the protectants for rubber & rust = good idea always, but need varies by climate, for certain. Happy New Year + Gods Rich Blessings my friend !

Who fitted the car tyre for you and how did you balance it?
@psalm2forliberty577

It was fitted by a Motorcycle Service Mechanic in Perris, Ca I think called "Fast Lane Cycles". He was like, "yeah Darkside your Scoot no prob lets go". He worked on Harleys, Sportbikes, Enduros & Maxi-Scoots. He checked its balance & showed perfect as it was. Hope that helps. Fwiw, this 145/60R13 is a Euro / UK size. Its easier in North America to find a slightly larger size 155/65R13 that might also fit. Cheers - David

You have been a godsend with this series. I have a wagon I purchased with the SLS already blocked off, But the guy I bought it from boogard a lot of the work. In theory I should be able to just get a Sedan pump without the tandem, Use the bolts from the Sedan pump and everything should lineup properly correct? I also know that the rack itself is different. Do you think the sedan lines would line up properly. I only ask because it seems you've done A LOT of leg work

Ha ha thanks glad to help ! You know I bet they would be fine MB uses (as other Mfrs) so much eqp that crosses over between engines & model series. In truth, I've no w210 sedan hereabouts to inspect to be certain. Sounds like your wagon PO had done an SLS delete & you're in for the simpler cheaper "one less thing to break" mode. Totally respect that lol. Are you already on Benzworld.org as a member ? Cause if so, the w210 Gurus in that forum could say definitvely. I've added in a PCV VALVE - model # MGD 179 not shown in this video - right where the brass connector piece is between hose end & Breather Filter. After more thought I realized the PCV valve acts as a check valve to regulate pressure and adding it between hose & filter was simple. See this Burgman Forum post for pictures of this layout & more discussion. www.burgmanusa.com/threads/2006-an400-pcv-hose-re-route-disconnect-from-airbox-add-18-longer-hose-to-breather-filter-will-this-decrease-oil-consumption.178561/post-1829228 I'll update this pinned comment with HOW this mod works etc once I've road tested it a few days & miles.

David, Thanks for doing this. I am looking forward to your video on the panel removal. I just got my 06 and will bee needing to do a valve adjustment soon. (4500 miles). I saw a pic of your scoot. What pad do you have on the seat?

Hey Steve, no problem easy to shoot & post. Which panel removal ? I do refer to most of the rearward ones here in this video. I'm just one person & no tripod so I am mainly giving guidance. Getting a copy of the Suzuki factory manual is mandatory, imho. Free to download or buy one already printed, it's your call. On the seat, I'm using 2: standard car seat gel pad from Walmart & beadrider (like a web of painted wood beads) generic from Amazon. Held on by bungee strap & beadrider has corner bungees. Comfort is far better than stock. But probably not up to custom seat territory (Russell All-Day or Corbin). Are you on Burgman forums yet ? TY - David

@@CubsFan2812 Yes indeed. Its largely idiocy and deliberate effort that has them sky high now. So I expect they'll fall eventually. I just picked up a neglected e320 wagon that's completely slammed in the rear. Its only resting on the springs and will bottom out even on small bumps. Its been driven like this for quite some time so components of the system may very well be damaged but I figured I would try some simple stuff first before replacing anything. I topped off the reservoir a few days ago but the fluid doesn't seem to be draining into the system and the rear has not raised at all. Do I have to manually activate the suspension to raise somehow? If not, any advise as to what I should do next? I'm not at all familiar with these SLS systems so hopefully you, or someone else more knowledgeable than I, would be able to shed some insight.

Vincent, I confess Im only able to be of limited help as my system is fully functional. For best help I strongly suggest you join us at the w210 forum at www.Benzworld.org There are more knowledgeable w210 "SLS' wagon pros there who can step by step troubleshoot. They can normally post diagrams of how the Hydro Fluid flows. Your pump may not be pumping to the rear OR valve stuck OR ??? Id also point you to Kent Bergsmas "MercedesSource" SLS videos on KZbin here. He shows various year wagons and goes over functional details - which are near identical whichever MB wagon series he shows. Let us know how you fare ! Great work here on this obscure fix. No other videos exist for this 'Tandem Pump' on the 1998-2003 Mercedes w210 model wagons. Appreciate you taking the time to show it en toto. Also for the money saving tips re Maval rebuilt pump + the ATF+4 for the Hydro Fluid. They get a mint for that stuff, and make it hard to find. Probably cause the wagons are not plentiful, maybe why ? How is the pump holding up now that you've put more miles on it & 2 months ?
