That dog may be small, but if it comes from ANY kind of working lines, it's got 10x the grit, determination, and especially pain tolerance of those various sheep dogs and rottweilers they usually use for French Ring or Schutzhund. Those dogs sure are big, powerful, and intimidating, but they are gutless cowards that will quite the minute they get hurt! I know of a guy who had a belgian malinois that was an absolute terror, and passed all the bite tests with flying colors. One day they decided to try to hunt some hog with the dog, and when that dog grabbed a hog, the hog poked a tiny little hole in his leg, and that was it. The dog REFUSED to get anywhere near a hog ever again. Gutless cowards, all of them! Those little terriers are bred to squeeze down a tight little hole and go face to face with biting prey like foxes, badgers, raccoons, and nutria. A good bred patterdale will keep fighting through the pain, where as most dogs bred for schutzhund will quit before they even get hurt, and will end up getting culled because they are afraid to confront a guy with a harmless rattling stick. Those trials are a total joke in my opinion, as they never test for pain tolerance like they do with hard bred hunting dogs like the patterdale!

She is training for a French Ring Brevet. Schutzhund would probably be a better suited sport for her but I don't think the dumbbells would be possible considering her size.

no correction means setting up a training session so that you focus on one thing at a time, like in this heel, probably eye contact was first focused on, the dog is off leash because we want pup to love love being with us and not NEED a leash to keep him with us or else he might start hating leash work.

Am Bulldog's are so smart. That is exactly why I got one and I wasn't even a "dog person". I didn't spend a truckload of time training mine but he learned very quickly (like Pink) and he retained it for years and years. Only problem is...as he got older he got lazy lol He will try to do all his tricks at one time to get all his treats in one shot LOL tell me that isnt smart?

@lzaichenko Thanks! I am waiting for a trial that is close to us, I don't want to travel for the BH. We got our FedAB score book a few weeks ago so we are ready to go. We are also working on all the Schutzhund 1 OB routines, just need more work on the send out and the retrieve over the climbing wall.

As training progresses the behavior will be put on cue and only rewarded when the behavior occurs after the cue. This particular session is as much about teaching the behavior as it is teaching her to think through a problem without help. As the dog understands the system better the non-reward marker will be helpful in indicating when she should continue trying & when that path is not going to get her a reward. It is also helpful when she is put on a random reinforcement schedule.

@MichelleMischa actually the nope is a non-reward marker. It's not supposed to make her stop. It just provides her with information, that behavior is not going to get a reward. It is essentially "help". The tone of the voice should not be negative. As for helping, in these circumstances I would prefer not to help. The point is for the dog to figure it out on their own. When training is over it's over, pretty quickly the dog/puppy will learn the difference between training and not.

I don't think the "Nope" will make her stop.. To me it sounds more like you're revording her with your voice, for barking. :-) And I also think it is OK to help her a bit more, or you can get a dog, that keep trying to do something, even if you are just sitting by yourself, if you understand? Cause you are the in both situations. :-) You can help her a bit more, and talk to her more. So she can really feel the difference between when you are training and not.:-) But I like this video!

@cory1926 You can start with treats or not it depends on the dog. My dogs got treats the odd time. But they will sit and give paw regardless if they get a treat or not but I know they still want that treat. But even the times they dont get one doesnt stop em from still doing whats asked and hoping
