I'll never forget being 23 years old in 2013 and building an ikea desk while discovering this song! Still my favorite tracks of the 2010s. Such a great feeling finding this song for the first time!

Love both versions of the song, don’t know why but I prefer this version, I think Ellie’s vocal delivery is better and like the instrumental sound is better. As for the hook I kinda felt like that was the weakest part of the song (it’s still a good hook though). Regardless which version it’s still a great song that introduced me to Wolf Alice who are now one of my favourite bands.

this version sounds so boxed in compared to the other version, misses some of the amazing vocals but does a bit more raw

I like both versions for different reasons. I love the extended intro in this one, and the delayed 'wha's in every chorus. But I prefer the lead guitar and chorus in the album version, and think that the bridge ('are you wild like me') is far more impactful on the album version. If only there was a supercut:(

I love both versions too. I love how both sound and feel different, yet you can't exactly tell where or when, unless you know how to.

For all those who are bitching about the album production: how do you listen to music? Which audio system? Do you know who Mike Crossey (the producer) is? I think if the album had this success, most of the credit goes precisely to the production: it's quite dynamic (at least by the modern standards), it has a great soundstage, all the instruments are clearly hearable and the vocals come through pretty well. Maybe this "Bros" version is a little bit more dynamic, but, in my opinion, the album version is much more effective and gives more "colour" to the song.

Regarding some comments: The Beatles, before George Martin sounded 'rough'...and Pink Floyd too, also U2 and The Cure... producers know their job. If you dig deeper, you'll find a lot of artists who are more than grateful to those sound engineers, experienced producers and all technicians who were able to 'polish' their music, knowing the gems they had in their hands in early stages.

This is vastly better than the newer version as others have said. Why do producers brickwall modern recordings and make them sound plastic? It sucks.
@DanLynch698 жыл бұрын
Completely agree
@eleanorwebster66848 жыл бұрын
Essentially I believe they needed to make it different enough from the original to have an excuse to sell it again, giving the money to the new record company. Unfortunately, we all love the old one way more cos it's so much better
@emamusicgeek8 жыл бұрын
This is surely more dynamic than the album version, but I think that "My Love Is Cool" sounds.... cool and, even if it's not so dynamic, it's not even so brickwalled (it's rated with a 7 on DR Databese)

Don't get me wrong, the album one is good, but this one is (in my opinion) much better. If it was a band choice to tone this version down for the album, fair enough, but I bet it was the label who thought of the idea.

+Jake J (GtaGamer8792) Ellie added a refrain “ Are your lights on, Are your lights still on, I’ll keep you safe, you keep me strong" and live I have heard her sing 3 different versions sometimes substituting the line " I’m pretty sure” instead of “I’m quite sure”. Live the song is awesome!! they are young and just coming into bloom as a tight knit unit. All the versions stand on their own merits, Sometimes songs need to be played out and allowed to evolve and mature, As a fellow songwriter I feel a kinship with these young folks. I feel many more great things will come from this partnership called "Wolf Alice” They are just warming up, Cheers 😎
