its a CHINESE game. and the simple answer is RACISM or COLORISM. ch!nks and koreans think very lowly of melanated people. not just blacks but ANYONE with darker skin tone. EVEN THEIR OWN! As a POC here, I’m gonna be honest I really don’t care about the skin, not because I accept the racism, it’s cause I’ve never had any expectations. Even so, I am still disappointed, it’s as the title says, this was technically their last chance, and even though there are still characters yet to be revealed, the teaser is showing us what is too come so it’s nota good start. But wanna know what irritates me the most about the drama? The fans and Voice actors response, and no this ain’t about the boycott (even though it’s actually pretty dumb since they already made a lot of money) there are people calling out Genshin and its racist themes while being mad at it. Which is totally fair And yet these same people accept blackwashing??? Talk about hypocrisy 🤦♀️

Saying this half jokingly: Tell me you live (or was born) in west without telling my you live in west. But honestly like you said its fantasy game thus their choice. Its rare to see black person in China. Could this be reason for not more darker POC? What I've read online being black person in China is like being weird animal in zoo. Everyone comes to take picture with you or just of you. Its just not culturally "accepted" or "normal" that you are black and Genshin ofc is made more towards Chinese/Asian market. They don't care what west thinks. We can see this in every complain we have vs what China has. If Chinese gamers start to riot Hoyo changes stuff instantly, west riots? They don't even say a thing. What I've seen they are not from Australia they are inspired by Aztec civilization located at south of Mexico (At least the pyro archon(?) has Aztecs inspired symbols on her). <3

@@Gunheadchicka The thing is it's much easier to convince people to put the pressure on a company when it's real people having their lives directly effected. With Nijisanji you have someone like Selen where you see the exact effect their horrible work culture has on someone to the point where they nearly committed suicide. Just look at controversies that have worked against Hoyo versus ones that didn't. The VA for Tighnari was harassing fans, some underage, and was fired with his lines re-recorded, or when the EN VAs like Paimons came out that they had not been paid in months and Hoyo had to step in with the studio that uses them.

It's possible they might try and make a focus on having newer characters and NPCs that have not been showcased yet be more colored, but I doubt you'll see anything major like a rework for the characters that have been showcased and whatnot already. If nothing else it doesn't hurt to mention the disappointment for the lack of racial diversity in the ingame surveys, it might effect some of the future designs of stuff and content within Natlan which hasn't already been showcased.

The way I see it is 1. from a financial perspective, a huge chunk of their revenue is from china and they would lose money and they want to sell characters 2. It is a fictional game so it really shouldn't be a huge deal 3. The best they are gonna do is put out tanner characters, if they didnt do it in sumeru idk why people are expecting it here It really isnt that big of a deal to me

I honestly don't think they're scared they'll get it wrong, considering they did give an eremite a dark skin tone that worked just fine and didn't go wrong. Speaking of, I think it's not a matter of if they can or can't, it's a matter if they want to or not. Again, they've made countless npcs that have genuine dark skin tones and not just slightly tan. I really hope they add more characters with dark skin tones when we actually see natlan, like characters we don't see in the trailer but will eventually be there.
