Please make more videos mate. if you can make a video on how you sell to clients / find clients and the pricing packages. Also how you sell them the idea of the website for their business. A little off topic but very helpful for web devs trying to become a business person. For Astro videos, if you build a e-commerce website with Astro, or advise how you add backend into your Astro projects, that will be cool too. Thanks!

Great video, Astro is a wonderful framework. I feel like its put the fun back into development for me by spending less time fighting against the framework (*cough* react).

Thats amazing mate,i am starting now with astro for those exact reasons,but as i am a 3d artist i needed to post some videos showcasing my work...what are the best practices or how can i optimise the videos for page speed ? Thanks for the vid
@cedarstudioswebdesign
@cedarstudioswebdesign Ай бұрын
that would make for a good video. in short, you want to use the <video> element. Grab a screenshot of the very first frame and set it as the 'poster' parameter. That way the image loads first, then the video later (preserves page speed). I would also do preload="none" and add a compressed <source> and non-compressed (fallback) <source> video inside the <video> tag. (web.dev/articles/video-and-source-tags)

A lot of tutorial vids don’t really cover using Astro beyond the basics. I studied a theme and they did their links like this, including footer nav, very cool. There was so much going on under the hood like permalinks, seo metadata, social links etc. Please make more videos on topics just beyond the basics of Astro and how a component works. It’s a totally new workflow to learn! 👍

Great video. I do wonder if using content collections would be better than the json file in data folder approach...

I like content collections (with enforced structure) for consistent pages like blog posts. For internal pages, which can be really variable, I like this more flexible approach

@@cedarstudioswebdesign Yes I've been watching codestitche's 11ty videos. But Astro with Codestitch looks an interesting option too and something I'll try. I went with 11ty because it's slightly more established and seemed to be easier to learn.

Thanks for the video! I appreciate you sharing a few strategies for integrating tailwind but I can imagine combining both could get messy quickly. Would love to see a "copy tailwind html" button on codestitch but I can understand not wanting to support both versions.

I am just starting with Astro and a programmer I am definitely not. I normally use Wordpress and breakdance builder. I was looking for a way to knock out sites faster and it seems Astro can do that. Are you able to do any tutorials on getting forms to work with Astro and also any way of making content editable for the end user ? Keep up the great work. 🎉
@cedarstudioswebdesign

For forms I use my host, netlify. They make it super easy (just add a netlify tag to the form). I use KeyStatic as a CMS, will have to make a vid on it soon

@@cedarstudioswebdesign do you think you can produce the same as Wordpress pretty much with the cms you use and hosting with netlify.
@cedarstudioswebdesign
@cedarstudioswebdesign 3 ай бұрын
@@nickr8339 potentially, but I give clients a minimal CMS. Think a portal for adding blog posts or putting an alert banner at the top of the page. Because I hand code sites, part of my services are doing updates. Small biz clients don't want a CMS to deal with, they want to email you and say "swap out this text." And they're happy to pay for that convenience

Hey, great video! I have actually been using Astro and CodeStitch for a few weeks after checking your Astro Starter Pack, so thanks a lot for steering my attention to this amazing combination! Really love the experience. If I were to suggest a topic for a new video, I'd ask you to show some examples of more complicated website projects. By this I mean: - how often do you need to use JS frameworks (React/Vue)? - when do you actually use Astro islands, what features call for it? - Tailwind + CodeStitch: do you actually combine them somehow within one project or is it always one or the other? Asking because I also enjoyed Tailwind but generally don't use it cause I rely on CodeStitch nowadays - would this be possible for you to go through your thought process ("this project will definitely need some dynamic components e.g. in Vue/React here and there...") and actual execution (combining standard static HTML, CSS, JS components with dynamic ones within one website project) - e-commerce shops: how do you approach the topic and what tools do you use (Shopify? in what way?) It is of course just a suggestion if you were looking for one and had capacity. I am myself just learning Vue, having made a few personal projects in React, but I haven't had chance to use them commercially. As I work with Astro when creating sites for clients, I would like to maybe incorporate the use of JS framework to gain more real-life experience as I am interested in building more complex apps in the future. Once again, great quality of videos on the channel, will definitely be checking regularly. All the best!

Good ideas! I can make some more videos on tailwind/CodeStitch, as they can be combined if you want. You just need to watch out for things like tailwind's preflight, which overrides base styles. As for using JS frameworks, right now I am doing static-only for my clients. So I just use Astro to get the JSX syntax I love with pure html. The only reason I would use a JS framework is to interact with a backend (e.g., send/receive stored data). Otherwise, manipulating the DOM with a component that only has access to frontend data (like a counter button in React) is usually pointless for the user. As for state management, a static site doesn't need much, and can use classic tricks like url params if you really need to. Haven't started offering ecom yet, but I plan to dig into CodeStitch's shopify implementation (github.com/CodeStitchOfficial/Advanced-Website-Kit) and building something like that with Astro.

@@cedarstudioswebdesign Thanks for the answer! Sure, get the point with JS frameworks. Great that you'll be diving into ecom too, really interesting field but I am still far from there - would love to see how you set this up with Astro. Aside from JS frameworks then, I think the topics related to CMS could be useful to others working (or trying to get to work) in web agencies. For example, CMS config with the admin panel etc. for the most popular cases you face in your work would be awesome (I imagine this would mostly be blogs, but also restaurant pages or product catalog sites?). Still think there's not much yt content on Astro for how amazing the framework is, so I am looking forward to anything that you'll show us!
