Love the mesh idea on the water reservoir! Is it working well?

Alpine strawberries are a lot like the wild berries. So the berries are going to be much smaller than what we are used to.

Out of curiosity did you use potting mix?

I know I am watching this month’s after you put this video out. But here goes. Instead of a toothpick try a large paper clip. Unbend it, leaving the last original bend to use as a handle. On the other end, bend back about 3/4 of an inch for poking into the hole of the planter drain hole. Should be much easier than a toothpick. Have you managed to get them to work properly yet? I think the basic design is great. Maybe putting something over the drain holes of the planter sections to keep material from being able to clog the holes.

A water pick works really well to blast dirt out of the holes. I have an older one that I use to clean mine and it also works well on the hard to reach places in my countertop ice machine

This was very helpful. It is still chilly here in Maine but I am prepping my GreenStalk for planting (my second year). It was good to see how you got yours ready for the year. I also agree that the bottom level doesn't get enough water so I always add a bit to each pocket. I have 2 of the original towers and last year they grew everything I planted really well (strawberries, cherry tomatoes, peppers, several different herbs and flowers). Looking forward to this growing season.

I just started mine and planted it out with seeds (lettuces and herbs). Still have a few more days before I should start to see growth. I do have the watering system, but I haven't installed it yet because of where I need to keep it to deter deer will probably mean I need to turn it often for the sun. So far I start my coffee in the morning and while it is brewing I go out and water my GreenStalk and mist all the planting cups to keep the seeds moist. Hopefully I'll keep that up, but I bought the watering system while it was on sale because my history with plants is unfortunate. 😅 I also thought it would be useful for when we travel, because I hate to return home to dead plants.

I’m not much help since I planted my GreenStalk TODAY. I planted dwarf nasturtium flower seeds , then strawberries next layer. Green peas from seed April 15 since they need cool weather. Soaking Dragons Tongue beans to plant in the top planter tomorrow. So yes you can plant from seeds just follow same basic principles as planting in any container. There are really good KZbin videos on dos and don’ts. Good luck. To both of us. 😊

Beautiful garden. You have so much still alive and growing so early in the year. What a dream! Your new plant babies look nice and healthy. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your videos. I planted a lot of mint varieties in the grown last year. I hope hope hope they come back here in zone 4. Happy Growing!

It is such a fun time right now with growing seeds. You will have a flourishing garden. I try to stay away from any chemicals when growing seeds, even fertilizers. I prepare a good soil mixture to start and later give them fish emulsion, a 1/4 of the normal strength. Works like a charm! Enjoy the garden journey and thank you for sharing!

I put an automatic drip irrigation in my green stalk. It is connected to my sprinkler system. Each tier I put drip line with holes every 6”. Ran the 1/2” tubing straight up the side then connected each drip line into the 1/2” tube.

Figs are easy to root. They prefer bottom heat and cool tops but I’ve literally rooted them at all times of the year in zone 9 a/b Louisiana with varying success. My preferred is to stick them in January but I rooted some this year in the July heatwave just to see and had about a 70% success rate. Good luck 🍀

You have the grey disc with the line in the center. You can order new disc that dont have that line. I got a greenstalk used from someone. I think the line causes problems that being said someone drilled out theirs and the holes where too big so I ordered new grey disc as the ones I have do not have the center line. Also lids are awesome to keep debre out.

I don't even use those gray dripping plates with holes. I am using automated drip irrigation system.
9b, surrounded by almond orchards, some row cropping, 2 freeways with my house built on an old pear orchard, sandy, gritty soil always blowing around in the wind. You know ... ideal growing conditions LOL. Even a rug outside and one inside aren't adequate to contain the constant grit I track in. It's just a fact of life here. I have one season under my belt with a Greenstalk. I think I missed the cork when I assembled mine, but I realised the need to do something so I raided my kitchen junk drawer and am using a bottle stopper to cover the center hole. I am short and can't see in to the reservoir so figured I could fill it better if I plugged the hole. I expected to have to water more than most others given our dry climate. I like the idea of turning the water reservoir upside down to minimise the gritty dirt getting in it. My plan was to cover it with foil and weight it down somehow. I expected a learning curve. I missed the instruction to line the hole of the ... grey reservours ... up with the planters, so my watering wasn't spot on. Correcting that now. I love mine so much that I got another during the Mother's Day sale. I'm still planting it with stuff for 5th season while trying to kill off winter"s broccoli. Love mine and would take any used I could find (zero as of this writing). I hope everyone falls in love with theirs in time. Thanks for the video.
