The deck crewman are FOOLS. The MH-53 pilots do NOT need anybody to land them. The landing zone is so tight, the only person providing any real guidance that means anything is the Flight Mechanic inside the helicopter, by the door. The rotor wash could have blown them all overboard. The helo crews do NOT need any help from the ships deck crews to land..........

I was a flt mechanic on 53s The LSE gives signals to the pilot, Advisory only. Conflict between crew directions supercede LSE instructions

This was during the first gulf war with Helicopter Minesweeping Squadron 14, while we prepped in Abu Dhabi for sweeping the northern part of the Persian Gulf. I think we all cashed checks onboard the Mighty Wisconsin when she pulled into port. Good times Richard.

1990. HM-14 deployed on board the USS Guam (LPH-91, with flve RH-53D and three MH-53E helicopters. This was to mark the last and one of the most successful deployments of the "Delta". The USS Guam was in port in New Orleans, Louisiana form 20 Feb through 28 Feb. The command partcipated in Exercise "Safe Pass" from 05 Mar through 14 Mar in the Charleston, SC OPAREA.
