Watching "after the fact" -- as usual -- while hooking on a new landscape (my own design -- 6" square). As for the Question of the Day: I am blessed with TWO "studios" -- one indoors (the largest bedroom in my 1,050 sq. ft. mobile home in rural central Alberta) and one *outdoors* -- which, of course, is weather-dependent re: using it. As I type, I've been watching this and hooking on my back stoop. I have an old chest freezer (came with the house -- no longer works) which is currently storing roving and wool batts for spinning, and a bit of yarn and a few other things. This is "perfect" as a surface for creating, including hooking on my scroll frame (converted from embroidery, as I prefer a hoop for that). I'm saving for a Chedicamp frame, by the by. But BOTH of these studios -- plus the one I have on my couch in my living room for cross-stitching, and the one I have on a lawn bench outside for spinning -- well -- they're only perfect because in each and every one of them, I am making something. I've taken Deanne's mantra to 'create beauty every day' and I'm running with it: spinning, knitting, art-rug-hooking, piecing fabric into quilts, cross-stitching...all of this feeds my heart and my soul. Thanks to this community and all these other ones that foster the work of one's hands. As Canadian singer-song-writer Steve Bell sings, from Psalm 90, v. 17: "May the favour of the Lord rest upon us and our land, and establish for us all the work of our hands -- yes, the work of our hands." 💗

slap dash instructions. like most pros, they’ve forgotten what not knowing basics felt like. slow down and be methodical. talk about the height of the stitch, describe better what’s happening underneath as you feed the wool. explain how to avoid pulling the previous stitch tighter/shorter as you pull the next one up etc. I bought the kit but will need to 11:18 find other teachers on youtube to learn from.

I am taking it as going to your studio and actually picking out wools and yarns in person.However,I do get excited when a parcel comes to the house.My studio is an upstairs room and I am relieved it is getting cooler.

Does rug hooking have it's roots in making rugs or making decorative wall hangings? This has been my only question about this craft.
@DeanneFitzpatrickStudio12 күн бұрын
definitely in ,making rugs!

As usual, watching this after the fact, I've had a rough week; my laptop's hard drive died ("worn out" said the repair guy) on Tuesday. It's in the shop for a couple of weeks, waiting on a new battery, too -- all on a 2021 machine! So...I've not even wanted to hook. The wasps have kept me busy feeding them, but also making it so being outside was a challenge. I've knit and I've made quilt blocks, and I've cross-stitched and thought about hooking. My reds came on Friday, so I'm back at my frame today. As for entertaining: I'm rather introverted. Any more than 6 or 8 (my family is 6, including me) is exhausting. I prefer coffee with a friend or two. That's good enough for me. And lots of time alone at my stitching hoop or my sewing machine or my hooking frame or with my knitting and nice music, mostly classical. Thanks for asking!

Hooking my 'red pot' as I watch. I have to tell you, it was your "Sunday Letters" book (a gift from a friend) and your Tapestry interview that got me down this hooking rabbit hole. Now I've got to design a few little pieces for a local Art Market that's held every year at the end of November (for the holidays). And I've kept the interview on my iPod and listen to it every time I go for a walk, or in bed before sleep sometimes. It both inspires and comforts me. Question of the day? Colour scheme? Well, I'm very fond of prairie landscapes -- big blue sky, dark green trees (aspen and evergreens etc.) and fields of gold canola or bright green corn. Browns for fence posts. Blues and blue-greens for sloughs (ponds).

love this note Margaret!! Thank you. Being on Tapestry was a big highlight for me. I am so glad you liked the interview.
