So was this the tripod that you broke while in Albany? You said that you had to throw it out after you’ve bumped it. Are you still recommending it?
@SimonPhillipsPhoto
@SimonPhillipsPhoto 7 күн бұрын
It was that exact tripod and sirui told me that to replace a leg would be $80au plus shipping costs which is expensive when something breaks. I did find it would blow over really easily. I wouldn’t recommend this tripod from the experiences I’ve had with it. You’re better off getting something slighting bigger that will be able to handle conditions better. I do wish it was more durable and something you could service yourself with replacement parts.

@nelson9963 no problems. What do you need from a tripod? I have another one that I picked up for less money than that one, it still lightweight but you can actually clean the legs if needed. It also goes a bit taller

@@SimonPhillipsPhoto I’m looking for a travel tripod around the price range of this sirui tripod. I was enticed by the light weight and the ease of deployment aspect of it. Apart from the reliability and repairability issues, I think the tripod would be perfect for me. Would like to hear more about your recommendations.
@SimonPhillipsPhoto
@SimonPhillipsPhoto 5 күн бұрын
@nelson9963 no problems, there’s a tripod I’m now using by KF Concept which is working a treat for me, it’s lightweight made of carbon fibre for the legs and a twist lock design which I like. The apex is made out of a plastic composite which is still strong enough, I used it yesterday in some windy conditions for some long exposures and it pulled off the results which was surprising these where 90 seconds long. It’s called the 64” carbon fibre tripod. One thing I suggest is buy another head for it as I found it never really clamped down much as it is all plastic. I hope that helps.

Hello, I am particularly interested if you meanwhile have an information or experience over the last 2 years whether the patented TiO2 (titanium dioxide) technology used by Sirui and the associated chemical process of photocatalysis for drying humidity and eliminating fungus and other bacteria might have any potential negative impact on the lubricant in the helical gear when used as a long-term storage solution for lenses. I want one, but it has to be safe for my equipment especially for vintage lenses. Your experience and advise would be great. Thanks a lot Gunther
@SimonPhillipsPhoto
@SimonPhillipsPhoto 13 күн бұрын
I have been using mine every day since I got it and storied a variety of gear in it and when stored at the right humidity of ~45% it hasn't caused any problems to my camera gear, seals are still as they where when new and it certainly hasn't effected the lubricant on delicate parts of the lens. It is still drying out my gear when I have shot in the rain or in humid conditions. I will be using mine for a number of years.

I’m sure you’ll kick yourself when I tell you but it is a cable release or shutter release cable, I just pick up the cheap ones off of eBay and buy them usually 3 per order just so I have a back up. This will work as well with most modern Fujifilm cameras like my X-T4. The reason why I used one in case you’re new to photography is to minimise movement to the camera as I take the photograph.

I forgot to mention this here but I ended up finding out what caused the lines in my images. Thankfully this was not down to anything I had done nor was it the film I used, I looked back over my older stuff once I found out the cause and all my images had the same effect. What happened was I put a post on my IG account and got people to comment, I also got some backlash from the company that done the job who phone and emailed me aggressively this was the owner Paul who contacted me, I tried to explain I was seeking answer from people and he thought I was attacking his business. I only tagged him in the photo a long with many others. I got contacted by another lab who was interested in having a look at my film negatives and I went along to them, they had a look and scanned my film to see no lines... I felt so good at this point and knew I was never going back to the old lab again. I found out their scanner is on its way out and they assumed it was a flat bed scanner due to the way the lines presented across the image which is called stair casing a technical term. Since then I have been using Silver Halide Studios here in Perth for all my developing and scanning. Later on after I found out what the problem was I mentioned it on my story only for others to come out of the shadows to say they also got blamed and treated badly after having issues with this film/print lab. It is a real shame that business get so big headed and defensive about what they do, I had many small problems with the quality standards over the years but I used them as they got the job done on time. This made me realise just another way how I wouldn't treat a customer if I ever had this problem, there's so many ways to resolve this without going straight to abuse and blaming the customer.

@@TheLastSongbird124I think you need to have lived in both the UK and in Australia to comment as you have. I've lived in Australia in 3 major cities for the past 18 years and life here has also nosedived. I've been living in Melbourne since 2017 and during the lockdowns it was brutal. People think the UK had it bad but we were locked down for wayyy longer than anywhere on this earth. Also, I don't care that your stance is on vaccines however, the mandates they imposed on us here were inhumane and they are still mandates in certain sectors. The pandemic hasn't stopped here and it's obvious to those that see the signs everyday. There are political problems here just as there are in the UK except the people of the UK are pushing back, whereas here most people don't. The extra time that you allowed permits you to make a detailed checklist for your departure. Review everything and search for any inconvenience that can be avoided. Most people allow no extra time for reviewing things and are rushed, and that leads to slipups. After this, if you find that you still have extra time on your hands, then search for an ebook online on the subject of business startups. You could even draw a flowchart of your itinerary, complete with intersections for each decision. You can discover new options for your itinerary. If you flowchart your itinerary, you can now create a spreadsheet with costs associated with each decision that you may encounter. Doing these things shows patience and intelligence. It will build your confidence as you have considered most adversities within reason. Just wishing you the best. Cheers

Cheers Mike you're certainly not wrong about that as I have completely altered what was going to be coming with me on the plane, I remember before I was going to take a really big bag on and now I have a small camera bag. I have overcome some challenges I was going to face once I got over there as well. I am thinking about drawing up a flow chart once I get over there and settled into a house of my own. There's a lot I need to do but I have to be smart about this, I know my community idea comes first and then my KZbin channel is a must, selling prints will be nice but there's other important areas I need to do before that. This area is something I have been thinking about a lot lately... of course my brain thinks it might not work but then the other side shows me what it could be if I work hard and steer people the right way plus look after people which is highly important.
