I just did this run (and then some) a few days ago and wasn't able to take out where the map shows due to it now being gated off.
@SJSCHOCHАй бұрын
Thanks for pointing that out. That is helpful information. I don't recall what the take out looks like exactly, but it seemed like it was explained to me that there was an easement at the bridge or something like that.
@BudgetAdventure28 күн бұрын
@@SJSCHOCH hey, thanks for replying! I really found your video helpful. That's interesting about the easement. I could only see that it was all fenced/off and the gate was shut when I drove by wanting to use this as a take out. I ended up going all the way to town and doing about 2 times the distance I wanted to. I also saw from the river when floating by. Granted, I did not get out of the boat, but I could see how it was fenced off and I think I remember seeing signs. I'll give it a closer inspection next time I am in that neck of the woods and I hope you are right. If you have any specifics you can learn from your freind about this easement, that would be awesome! Thanks again.

Some great video angles here of the river. I'm from AZ, but when I picture a river, I always picture a lot of greenery. It's a bit weird to see a river with just mostly brown surroundings and desert terrain. LOL. That's one of the few things I do like about southern Arizona: it's desert with some forest and pine trees sprinkled here and there on mountains even. But I will always prefer the high country as I like cold weather. I am no fan of heat, and never was. But the desert has its own beauty for sure. Despite being a native, Salt River is one of the very few places I've never been to. Yet. It is on my list. Also, may I ask the name of the first song at :23 seconds?

My son and daughter-in-law and I did our first float ever just upstream of this descent about the same time. We put in at Redrock, NM and floated to the Highway 92 bridge. We definitely underestimated the length (took about 7 hours) and didn't use enough sunscreen (still burnt). It was a great day, just too much of a good thing. Passed by an extremely angry mountain lion, thankfully on the opposite side of where I was floating, even though the river was pretty shallow. He was huge, by far the biggest I've ever seen. That freaked me out a bit (only animal I'm really scared of). Several portages and shallow sandbars, so I was beyond toasted after that long of a day (I'm 55 and not in the shape I once was). Anyway, your videos have been extremely helpful and inspiring to me to take up the sport, so I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your efforts (keep it up).

@SJSCHOCH3 ай бұрын
I haven't been on that road since Dec, and it was in pretty good shape then (rancher maintains it I think). I think a Subby could make it - a little bit of semi-high clearance stuff, but I think a subby could make it around it. I know I have been in a subby on it before. Paddle on...

@@SJSCHOCH ya it looks really extreme. i guess the length off the back gives it the stability the larger stern on previous models provided. The price tag will keep me in the boat I have for now though. Looking forward to more videos. Are you in the 4 corners region?

Diggin this! You guys got any suggestions for whitewater classes? We just ran Bartlett to needle rock and it was far more dangerous than we anticipated
@SJSCHOCH11 ай бұрын
I actually haven't been on that section for a while, last I heard (last fall there was a ton of wood - strainers - sweepers). It isn't much more than Class II boating, but I wouldn't recommend being on it unless you have Class III boating skills due to the wood. It can be a really-really hazardous place. I hope y'all made it out safely. As for White Water classes. As for WW class, see Carlos in Camp Verde (search CD Outdoors). That is great you are looking for instruction and knowledge. Paddle on!
